ABS Master Smith Jon Christensen mosaic damascus, mine is the bottom one, for a trapper that Jon is building me. Jon puts a lot of work into his damascus.

Wow, that damascus is stunning! Even more attractive though are the blade shapes themselves, IMO. Really beautiful flowing lines set in flowing beautiful steel... I think your blade is probably the better looking of the two but it's a close call. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.

Anyone else having problems with the Forum's search function recently? I often use it to find my most recent post in a thread, but for the past couple of days, it doesn't return results any more recent than sometime Tuesday 8/16/16. Another consequence of the ongoing server migration? Thanks for any insights anyone can provide.

Having the same issue GT !!!!

Thanks for the confirmation, Harry. I just reported it in the tech support forum. (Apparently, the same thing is happening if you try to "Find latest posts" or get a count of "Post Areas" in someone's Profile page. And I think poor Will Power has been stuck on 13999 posts most of this week!)

Thanks! It will have an integral frame(416ss) with black lip pearl scales. I totally agree with you about the blade shape and grind, Jon is doing a great job with these slipjoints recently.

Looking forward to seeing that one, Kris. Those are impressive blades.

Those whom I've reminded about the use of family friendly language in the Traditional Forum will be amused to hear I was officially rebuked by the HR lady yesterday for using "unprofessional language" in describing some particularly stupid antics by one of our subcontractors.

What can I say? There are some situations which just are not sufficiently covered by saying, "Oh darn."

Lol, so true Frank, so true:thumbup:

Infraction next time Frank :)

Forgive me folks as this knife isnt the most amazing - but the more I muck around with it- you know...it's a pretty decent knife.

For some reason the earlier Solingen knives dont seem to get as much collector value as the earlier American brands, there are some good points to back up this view point - but then again, there are MANY Solingen and Sheffiled knives that are extremely well made - and lets be honest - when you get a Stag example - the German and Sheffield knives stand side by side with the best of them with ease.

I bought this knife for a cost of a nice sandwich - the Bone is actually very very nice, my extremely poor camera shots taken in a hurry so I could go and look at a car for wee Teana - do the knife absolutely NO justice whatsoever.......

I have a nice Horn Premium Stockman, and this too is stamped deeply PREMIUM STOCK MAN on the Blade - now I am a dead ring sucker for and deep Blade Stamping - Matchstrike long pull - yep another tick in the box, lovely Jigged Bone- along with the warm inviting colour - yep - tick that one too...

Bear trap spring -WHEW - Pinned Shield, Walk and talk to die for- so this knife has it all! :D

Also a Broken tip on the Sheepsfoot - Oh man...... just when things were going really well :grumpy:

You can see my planning in Black vivid on the Sheepsfoot Blade before the knife and I went for a little walkie down to the Garage hehehe, now wheres my Linisher.......

Sooooooo off we go down to the garage, now I dont know if you can see but the blade has a nice Swedge going on there too- this was my concern - tip-yeah no problem - Swedge-I have to blend my new one in well.....

Im disappointing in the photo - I made a real mean solid sheepsfoot - patiently taking it back - the tip of the blade is absolutely immaculate - I was very happy with that, I blended in the Swedge with absolute ease - the photo doesnt show the beautiful sharp line- in fact the light makes the Swedge line look soft - I guarantee you its perfect and crisply sharp - I dont like the light - but i hope you get the idea...

The only thing in my opinion - and please folks - this is my opinion only - is the German silver hardware that Solingen cutlers used in conjunction with Steel pins - now this knife would be 100% better with Iron Bolsters, or as the American Cutlers fashion their Bolsters with matching materials, but all in all I do like this knife....

Nice Spey as well as another view of the newer version of the Sheepsfoot... I also actually like the rag part of the Bone that you get now and then, this isnt deteriation at all, just nature of the bone that you can see Pile Side....

So all I am going to do is work on heavily tarnishing the Bolsters - I think that in this case ( as I usually do not like messing with a knife too much unless it warrants it ) I may do as I have altered the knife now anyway...

Duncan, a terrific knife!!! & a great restore on the sheepfoot:thumbup: I agree about the lack of attention the Soligen knives do not garner. I too love a deep blade etch and matchstick pull.

The bone is gorgeous:thumbup: I at one time had a similar Soligen Premium Stock knife. It had black composition covers that sported a tweezers and toothpick like a SAK.

You mention about myself and others here that have a knack of locating wonderful vintage knives. Well you possess the very same skill. I would love to see your entire collection. So don't be surprised when you get a knock on your door at three in the morning...I'm just not very good with that 16 hour time difference:D

You've done a great job restoring that stockman Duncan, bravo.

The curvature of the frame seems very pronounced to me, but that's probably due to my inexperience than anything else (or maybe the shadow?). I bet it sits in the palm with firm and secure feeling.

Paul my friend- thank you for the kind comments. Yeah the Bone is nice for sure.
The door is always open- and I'm guessing we owe you a couple of early mornings and late nights.
Now Paul- my collection is absolutely nothing on yours and simply is the truth and you would get bored looking at them anyway because most of them are yours :thumbup:

Mr Scruff Sir- thank you -it was hardly a resto job on the knife- but it was badly gunked up - blades very stiff- it hadn't seen oil for a long long time- possibly if ever.

Shadow is playing tricks- there is the usual slight curve that a Stockman will have - but as you suggest - the Shadow is amplifying this.

The Matchstrike pull was caked with dirt and rust - as per usual - so I got that all out with the help of a BBQ Bamboo Skewer and good Ol Mineral Oil.

I will give the Bone a good toothbrush up with oil once I do the Bolsters - just playing really- questionable if it's a knife worth spending time on- but you know what - I think if you gifted this knife to someone who would love to have a neat Traditional knife - how could they not be happy.

I don't think I would be exaggerating if I were to say that once finished and I continue to really free the joints with a hot soapy water and blow out with compressed air- WD40 the joints big time after that - then blow that out and re-oil with Mineral Oil - this knife will last a couple of generations.

Nice knife and a great job on the sheepsfoot.
The dark pins don't bother me. I figure steel pins are stronger and nickel-silver bolsters don't rust.
How are you going to tarnish the NS?
I could almost believe that Richartz made my Olsen, except I think my pins are smaller.

Finally got the deck completed yesterday. Stripped, restained and sealed, and furniture repainted. I'm getting old. Took me five days over four weekends.

This weekend was bittersweet for me as we took my daughter to college about 7 1/2 hrs from home. The reason I am telling this is that my Case peanut and 4way screwdriver that I always carry (Thanks Carl) were both put to use in assembling fans and cutting open boxes. Sure did make me feel good to accomplish even these simple tasks with what I had in my pocket. Made my daughters roommates father pretty thankful also. Kinda put to rest my family asking why do you carry all that stuff in your pocket everyday. This place has made me want to try to do more with less and this is a first step because in the past I would have taken at the very least a pair of pliers and a double ended screwdriver but what was in my pocket was just enough without being too much.
