"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Man, I really need to visit this corner of the porch more often. There are so many great stories, anecdotes, and good humor that I'm just tickled every time I swing by. Good show, everyone! Happy Friday!

I didn't notice it until after I posted the photos, but I'm fairly certain the dot right above the tang stamp is where Mr. Lile might have tested the hardness.
That would make sense as the dot didn't appear to be part of the die.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present ... (insert drum roll here) DOC'S LILE!!!

I ran into him this morning, and he laughed when I told him some friends wanted pictures of his little Lile. He seemed tickled to oblige. He's a really a good guy.

That is too cool. Thanks so much for getting the pictures for us.

Thanks for the stories, Ted. Those were great!

Great find Meako. Can't wait to see pics or better yet, a vid.

Thanks for the Lile photo--it's great to see how how it's been gently used and taken care of well. Please thank your friend.

I thought maybe it was a locating hole. If it were for testing hardness, must've been done before annealing the tang. I thought maybe it was a locating hole.

Cheers-it needs some repair work which I have underway.
The LILE is a design/appearence that I usually don't care for much -but Docs LILE has.....IT.
Just beautiful.

The 6th post of the thread linked by Peregrin states that that dot above the tang stamp indicates the knife was made by employees of Lile.

what a day, back to Pa. This time, the driver, was my brother and not me. Spent a fun day at the shooting range wrapping up at Pat's for philly cheese steaks! and a few beers

Been gone for a few days went with my wife and granddaughter so they could buy her school clothes. We went to Sevierville TN. they have a huge outlet mall there. About ten miles down the road is the "worlds largest knife store" I won't mention the name because they are not a BF paid dealer. So I dropped them off at the Outlet Mall and headed that way The place is enormous and they stock tons of knives and ammo which I needed to replenish seems I have done a lot of target practice this summer. Anyway I asked several different employees about GEC and all said they did not carry them. I latter found the GEC counter (stuck between Mora's and Helle's) but they didn't have much of a selection. I had worked my way through autos, fixed blades, modern folders, traditionals, nice knives, crap knives sharpening supplies, a large section of old knives purchased from estates with most of them in basically mint condition and then I spied the Victorinox section. I have had a little classic on my keychain for years so I replaced it with a black one they had. Across from the SAK's was the Case counter, now as a life long Case fan I had to settle in and spend some time there. In a large display I saw it a two blade Saddlehorn in bone stag clip main with a drop point secondary and I truly believe I heard angels sing when I saw it. Fit and finish exceptional half stops on both blades and yes the blades are CV. Brass liners and pins with a nickel silver shield absolutely set perfectly. To my eye this has to be one of the most beautiful knives I have ever saw. I spent four hours in this store and got no where near seeing everything but it sure did beat those outlet stores and I now have the most beautiful Case knife I ever saw in my pocket.. This picture does not do this knife justice.

Very nice Randy, the small sak classic always comes thru in a pinch. had one on my keys since college, and still a trooper. ive replaced bottle openers before and the classic is still fine!

Thanks guy's I don't normally get so taken back by a $70 knife but something about this one just hit all the marks for me.

Just happened to be carrying this one today since it is a Sunday . I think that the Case Small Saddlehorns are a very under rated knife Randy . I have seen one like yours pictured on a Case dealer site and have thought about it myself . Yours is a very nice looking knife and I really like the Sabre Clip. You are really going to enjoy I think !!!

Nice knives Randy and Harry  You can't beat going into a bricks and mortar knife store

Here is something pretty cool - well ok different, BUT...made by Joseph Rodgers with the Maltese Cross Trademarks
Always looking out for Sheffiled stuff - I was ( I have to be honest ) Stoked to get this jug, it may look Silver but it's not, ....Still it was something quite different- and I have to admit, anything with a bit of age made by Joseph Rodgers? - Im in!

I just got hold of another wee Ibberson as well - all metal pen knife - man the swedges on this thing is incredible for the small knife it is! I have one that I have shown on Old knives before - so this is exactly the same - beautifully made small knife!

Nice Duncan, is it pewter?

Congratulations on the Ibberson too my friend

Plated Silver Jack matey - never seen a Joseph Rodgers Jug here before......picture a eagle swooping on its prey lol
