"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Been having some health issues that require surgery but have not been able to find a surgeon that was comfortable doing it. It is very complicated. Today I went to Charlotte and saw a surgeon that is not only comfortable with the procedure but is a specialist in it and has done many of the same type just as complicated. I have to do some prep work before they do the surgery so it' at least a couple of months off. Anyway glad to have found a Doctor because without the surgeries things looked a bit grim.

Thoughts and prayers are heading your way from WI as well. We went through a similar search 8 or 9 years ago finding somebody to operate on my wife. It wasn't anything as serious as what yours sounds like, but she had an issue that could have resulted in her losing the use of one of her hands. I called 10 or 12 different hand surgeons and was told by each that they didn't think they could do the surgery. We finally found one that would, and the relief was overwhelming. I'm really happy that you found somebody that is willing and able to fix you up. Please keep us all posted, as Duncan said.

I'm glad to hear you found the help you needed, Randy. I'll be rooting for you.

Randy Will be thinking about you.

JP That Panhard is most cool, we even had a few here although rear engined cars were never too popular due to the climate. Googled some Panhard pics myself, very quirky and personal vehicles, there was a van that looked like some deep sea monster!:D

Prayers and good thoughts!

At the powwow Sunday, a woman danced before her big surgery, with about twenty other people. It was a hot day, she had her full regalia on, in addition to a shawl, and was enveloped in the other 20 people there to support her. I was afraid she was going to fall out, but she stayed strong. My sister took a video and posted it to Facebook.

It didnt break because you have whats called a full hunter case. the lid protects the crystal. it is meant to be used for the more active folks back than. Well there is a select few of us, that still carry pocketwatches. I plan to once i finish this watch chain. Pocketwatches were always rather fragile. I can tell by the case, that that watch was very well loved and used! Thanks for sharing :)

Great picture GT of two real treasures! Nice that you have them and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info and compliments, Jack and James. :)

I was just preparing for bed at about 11:45 last Thursday when my wife said, "Frank, there's a fire in the canyon.". And there was, about 1/4 mile away. Fortunately, the humidity was up and the wind was not. Took the fire fighters a little over an hour to get the flames down. I didn't think to get the camera until it was well under control and the flames were down.
...
Glad it wasn't too serious, Frank. You Californians seem to face threats that I don't even think about!

I caught this pic of the Harvest Moon Friday night. Taken from our deck and zoomed in pretty tight. The tree line at the end of our property is about 300' away. I should have used a tripod but it's surprising how fast the moon rises.

Splendid photo, Gary! Thanks for mooning us.

Today was the 75th traditional "slow hill climb race" of Montmartre, an opportunity to see some real Old Timer alive.

Thanks for the fascinating pics, Jolipapa!

Hi folks,
how have you been? finally I can relax a bit, and say hi to the best community I ever had the pleasure of being a part of.
Lately my time on BF has been close to zero, I've been busy with family things, alot of work, and some extra work as well :p I've been teaching in a course about teamwork and safety procedures in perioperative (surgical) care, and it's harder than I thought it would be...yet I'm glad I didn't turn down the opportunity when I had the chance.
Learning is never easy, but trying to educate others, transmitting some awareness of problems and strategies...well it's more difficult for sure. Yet, I'm glad I'm doing this, although it's taking quite alot of time from my hobbies, knives included.
Don't worry though, I do carry a knife and care about knives just like before ;) I've also been working underground for the Sardinian Connection and in the upcoming weeks two packages are expected to cross the Atlantic heading west to the US
Today I'm packing up and tomorrow I'll fly to Belgium for a short holiday trip (much needed and expected). Hopefully, I will be able to visit some coutellerie there, although to be honest I'm not after buying any new knife, just enjoying the ones I have...but you never know :p
Hope everyone here is fine. I will try to read all the posts and threads I've missed but it will take some time :) meanwhile, I just wanted to check in, say hi, and wish everyone the best. Although I haven't posted here lately, I never felt like moving one inch away from this community. We all know why.

Fausto
Fausto, good to see you here! Thanks for the update.

Randy, continuing to pray for you, your family, your doctors. Glad to hear that you have a specialist lined up. (For some reason, I thought this surgery was going to happen back on August 8 or 9.)

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. Cloudflare has decided I am a threat to the site.

Must be a very intelligent application! :D;)
Can't be too intelligent, it apparently does not like trappers. All intelligent beings like trappers. :D It wouldn't let me post my trapper pic. I had to close the browser, clear cookies, and start over at both sites.

And yet you handled it with aplomb. ;):D
ummmm... not quite. Words were uttered which shall not be repeated here.

The monkeys Uncle-you should have seen the pic I wanted to post-it even had a knife in it:eek:

I don't think we have a bugs and blades thread, so I'll post this here. This is the largest dragon fly (?) I've ever seen:

If we have any entomologists here on the porch, I'd love to know what it is.
