"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Thanks folks :)

Well, thankfully I was confused. Adaylnn got herself a Little Pony t-shirt for my birthday. Sorry, no pics this time :D

Speaking of pics...John, I looked

Hope you all have a great one

In celebration of your birthday, she got herself some new clothes, huh? Sounds like my wife! Haha. :D

Happy Birthday, Brett! I hope to one day have a birthday cake made by my baby girl.

I thought I'd share with y'all a new exercise routine I developed last night.

My wife and I were attending a concert at a winery. I realized after we left the car that I had my 34OT in my pocket, but didn't really expect that they'd be checking us on entry. Sure enough, they had metal detectors and the person monitoring the station deemed my Middleman to be a weapon when I put it in the basket with my keys, wallet, and phone. ...
Funny story, Greg! :D Glad you didn't lose your 34OT that you tuned up so nicely for whittling.
Wineries have concerts?!?:eek: (I know nothing about wine; I think my most recent "wine" experience was Boone's Farm at drive-in movies over 45 years ago!)

... I bet a pocket slip could come in handy in that instance; drop it in the tray with your keys and all that, I doubt anyone would know what it was or think twice about it.
That's an interesting idea, Barrett! I think I'll wait for you to try it, though, and tell us how it works out! ;)

32 years ago today, I married my best friend and lover. I remind myself I could still screw this up. I LOVE MY WIFE! Always have. Always will.
...
Belated anniversary well-wishes, leghog!:thumbup: If all goes well, my wife and I will celebrate 32 years of matrimony next June.

...
My 36th birthday is this weekend and my oldest daughter, Adalynn, who is 3 said she wanted to make my cake. She actually bakes pretty well for her age. This is what my birthday cake looks like for my 36th. :D:D Mom helped of course but I must say, Ive never had a Little Pony birthday cake. :D

...
Happy Birthday, Brett!!:thumbup: That cake your daughter made is super sweet, literally! ;)
36 is 6^2; that's kind of cool! My daughter is 3^3, I'm 4^3 (or 8^2 or 2^6), and my neighbor across the street is 3^4. Lots of cool exponential ages going around!

thanks Paul, same here! usually mechanical/automatic, but do keep a few quartz pieces around for the situations. here are some more,

some of these i gotta take apart and oil a bit. should get a decent case for them
Jack, I don't know anything about watches, but I enjoy seeing your pics. When I was a lad back on the farm, I often carried a cheap pocket watch. I still don't understand why the glass cover or crystal or whatever it's called didn't break with all the abuse it took from a young boy on a farm. I have an "heirloom" pocket watch now that my Dad gave me a couple of years ago; he got it from his father, who got it from his uncle, who got it from a railroad he worked for. I'm not sure how many years back that was. Here's a photo:

It didnt break because you have whats called a full hunter case. the lid protects the crystal. it is meant to be used for the more active folks back than. Well there is a select few of us, that still carry pocketwatches. I plan to once i finish this watch chain. Pocketwatches were always rather fragile. I can tell by the case, that that watch was very well loved and used! Thanks for sharing :)

I was just preparing for bed at about 11:45 last Thursday when my wife said, "Frank, there's a fire in the canyon.". And there was, about 1/4 mile away. Fortunately, the humidity was up and the wind was not. Took the fire fighters a little over an hour to get the flames down. I didn't think to get the camera until it was well under control and the flames were down.

This is what it looked like from the bedroom window when it was under control.

I could do with some help...:rolleyes:what am I doing wrong?

Was going to post this in Tech but I think an answer will be forthcoming here. It's about P-Bucket...Why can't I paste the IMG link to put pix on the forum anymore? I've enabled the function on my account but I can't copy the image link. Hence pictureless I know it's something simple but it's beyond me...

Thanks, Will

Well I wouldn't suggest it at, say, the airport :D, but at a baseball game or concert or something, I doubt they'd notice, and if they did you could just run it back to the car.

We went to a concert in downtown Phoenix a while back where they had you hold all the stuff from your pockets over your head as you went through the metal detector, rather than putting it in a tray. I thought that was pretty weird, but would have been pocket knife friendly. :D

That's a little too close for comfort, Frank. I'm glad they were able to get it under control quickly.

A belated congrats to leghog and his bride!

I caught this pic of the Harvest Moon Friday night. Taken from our deck and zoomed in pretty tight. The tree line at the end of our property is about 300' away. I should have used a tripod but it's surprising how fast the moon rises.

Today was the 75th traditional "slow hill climb race" of Montmartre, an opportunity to see some real Old Timer alive.
3-affiche.JPG

The start is given by the (fictional) Free Common Grand Paymaster, and the local Poulbots drum roll. The aim is to be the slowest to climb the hill. A scrutineer follows the cars to be sure they don't stop or use the reverse.
The 2nd runner-up, a 1901 De Dion Bouton supervised by the Grand Chamberlain.

The cars are divided in 2 groups, the pre-vintage with a silent 1902 Oldsmobile coming from Belgium;

In the 2nd group the vintages, included this splendid Voisin, followed by a Sandford (an English Morgan built by under license by an US pilot installed near Paris, powered by a French watercooled Ruby engine) and a red Fiat Balilla;

It maybe not the best or most glamour, but I have a soft spot for this Peugeot 201 as this was my Pa's first car ( in four doors saloon form and in not that nice-looking) and I still can recall the erratic travels of my very youth :D. The venerable car ended in the hands of a peasant as a field tractor

You may imagine how all this made us thirsty but there was plenty of chitry to drink - or was it St Bris  -

the oldest of the bunch was this 3 wheeled made in the unlikely town of Agen in 1898!

Oh just ,to prove it was just an excuse for fun : the Free Common's assistant-mayor aboard his 328 replica

Very nice pics. I love the craftsmanship that went in to them. They have character unlike those of today.

I would love to attend that event, Jolipapa! Thank you so much for your photos and summary of the event.
