Took the old tank around town on a few errands today. I love driving this thing. :D

One of my father's friends and employees, whom I called Uncle Joe...

When I was a kid, I had lots of aunties and uncles like that! :) Virtually every friend of my parents was addressed in this way, even the local butcher was Uncle Joe. The practice went out of fashion here sometime in the early 70's or late 60's. The only time I've ever been addressed like that by anyone other than my niece, was by a little girl from Papua New Guinea where it is still the custom :)

I love the Tank Barrett!!!

Me too!

Looks like a defrocked taxi, which is what most of them were. They had a reputation for longevity; some racked up hundreds of thousands of miles.

I love these Oldies, but sometime they let you down, like last friday with a blown head gasket on the Norton, halfway from the cutlery show at la Monnerie, right in the middle of nowhere...
Did not attend the show, but finally came home with a bad cold!

Barrett what is that car it looks to be a 55 but I don't recognize the hood ornament or the bumpers.

Randy, it's a 1976 Checker Marathon. It's the exact same car as the old cabs, but this one was sold as a consumer vehicle, so it was never used as a taxi. They look older than they are because Checker used the same body style from the late 50's until 1982 when they shut down production.

Sorry to hear that JP, hope your cold is gone soon. That's a very atmospheric shot

It's been two years since I joined BF. And, in that time, I've posted some, spent too much money on knives, met some great people, and generally had a good time. So, in appreciation on the Jewish New Year and my oldest son's birthday, I'm now golden. Thanks everyone.

Alan

Congrats, Alan and good move.

I've always considered this forum as much a part of the "hobby" as the knives themselves and I know I'm not the only one with that opinion.

Your name looks good in Gold.
