"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Literally thousands of antique and junk shops in York, Adams, Lancaster counties. Have fun!

And S. Clyde Weavers! They got the best sandwiches there. The Chicken Salad is almost good enough to make me want to move to Lancaster/Mannheim/Hershey area :p

I can get Turkey Hill iced tea here in MI now so the urge has diminished a bit.

Got the new Blade show issue of Blade, and they have a pic of the Tony Bose jack that will be auctioned off at the show for the National Knife museum. I know that the same model is not going to be reproduced this year, a coffin jack, but I am still excited seeing this knife. I tried to find the link to the original 2011 Bose Case collaboration thread. Anyone have it?

Here it is.. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/811548-Case-Bose-2011-Collabration/page5

BTW, the collab is going to be the coffin jack. I got credit for that image in Blade that the NKM will be doing a silent auction with. I usually don't get photo credits because...well, heck I don't know why. :p

Im pretty excited about this years collab...hopefully after immigrating I can russel up the cash and snag one! I've had to pass up some amazing knives I've been offered this year because of that.

Thanks for the link, and the photo should be front page news ;).

Can everyone that has a traditional slipjoint as their avatar let us know what the knife is, in their signature?

Robert, are you moving from Australia because of their gun and knife laws?

Its a complex question really, yes and no, but I'll try to cliff note it...

First and foremost I am married to an American citizen who experienced the prejudice a lot of Australians seem to have for Americans (blaming politics on the individual and making rash generalizations based on false preconceptions) which got me and my wife extremely irate and helped nudge/buffer this move, some of the things people say with no remorse is just sickening. It was always going to happen but she wanted to live here for a while but it didn't work out as planned...the knife, gun and vehicle laws have gotten completely ridiculous and out of hand to the point I couldn't even drive one of my vehicles without police harassment that I had spent 10 years building (which I sold at a MASSIVE loss recently), I sold my rifles, and knife laws I completely ignore but any I acquire now and don't want to lose I ship to my wife as customs have very sticky fingers. There is also the fact that since I was a child my ideal home, my ideal life thats always been in the back of my mind was not in Australia and I wasn't really going to find the peace I was after.

America for a long time, before I met my wife, before I visited the US, was my home...kinda cheesy but when you know you know, you only live once and when you have a goal you fight to make it happen. :)

Just picked up my new Knife World issue at the PO, you are mentioned with Tony, and given a credit as one of the makers of those stunning trappers!

Robert, here's one American who is glad to have ya comin' to America.

Robert, I hope your quest is realized sooner rather than later.

It sounds like Australia is losing a great citizen and America is gaining one. Welcome back, and I hope you find the kind of life you're looking for here.

Thanks, I cannot wait to get over! I will be pursuing a job with a major knife manufacturer and slowly working my way into making custom friction folders...I'm a machinist by trade but i'm too artistic to be stuck in engineering.

That is so cool! I'd love to see what you come up with when you get established.

I've started design phase on my line, taking the blade shape from some of my fav traditional slipjoint patterns and going for something a little out of the ordinary...wont be able to prototype till i get my own equipment.

I'm kinda glad the 2011 Forum Knife thread is closed. Almost ordered a second. Then I remembered that GEC will be making the same pattern for sale.:D
So in a little while I'll have plenty of choices for a user.
Mrs. Telcontar is gonna kill me.

...I ordered myself a 'Nut.
The most basic of them all; the yellow delrin handled one in CV.

I already have a G10 handled one in true sharp, but one way or another I can't get a decent edge on it.

Last time I ordered one I got the number wrong and they send me a Mini Trapper in CV instead.

I find it a bit too heavy for pocket carry but the edge on it is amazing.

Furthermore the story of Carl and his CV peanut at the shooting club outcutting all them tactical blades triggered my buy as well:p

And just as I was content carrying only my Vic Pioneer and black Classic as EDC:eek:

I was dubbing between another small Spyderco or the Peanut.

Peanut won:D

Just wanted to share this with you all:)

Confession is a good thing, my son. :)

Don't feel bad, I have no idea why I have multible peanuts. After carrying my dad's 'nut for a while, I bought a yellow CV one for my pocket. And a nice little pocket knife it was, cutting filthy dirt encrusted plastic tape of metal bar stock for the lathe, breaking down cardboard boxes, gutting pan fish. I have no idea why I bought the nice shiny bone stag stainless for a dress knife. I carried the bone stag for a while, and I have no idea why I bought the red bone CV 'nut for my pocket. I carried the red bone for a while and it was good. Did everything I wanted out of a pocket knife. I have no idea why I then bought a chestnut bone CV 'nut. No idea at all. It didn't do anything that the yellow CV, or the true sharp bone stag, or the red bone 'nut didn't do. I think it's all part of the mysterious allure of the peanut. Nobody really understands it, but you cave in to the call of the nut. You become a member of the cult, and one of the faithful. Don't fight it, it's cheaper than guns, drugs, alcohol, women, or motorcycles. And it's legal.

You only have to kneel five times a day toward Bradford Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and say "God bless all peanuts."

:D:D

Carl.

Multiple knives. Who me?:o

Here is a unique one it is a little too big for my pockets, useless in the kitchen. Almost sharp enough to cut butter. For some reason I only have one:D
