"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

It sure is great having Elliott back in saddle here. I know I have not been as active as I was in the past before this achilles surgery, but this recovery is nasty although I have learned quite a bit from the experience.

There were a few times, I was getting overwhelmed between this place, recovery efforts, the new business and forum knives. On the down hill side now and things are falling back into place! It is good to have my brother beside me (although I know he never left). ;)

Popcorn was a famous moonshine maker, right? I remember seeing something about him on TV a while back

What happened to him?

The talk of corn liquor reminds me that one of the ideas I have had on my mind lately is to dig out the Foxfire books and see if I can get any ideas of projects to work on. I'm afraid a still might not go over too well here in the middle of suburbia, though.

Good to meet you so to speak. I am from Chattaboogie originally and go up there quite a bit to see my folks. Good to have a hometown guy here, we have another one who also hangs around.

Someone at some level of gov't decided to prosecute him for his manufacture and distribution of moonshine. Rather than go to jail over it he took his own life.
Sad ending but he went out on his own terms.

Hi,

There used to be a lounge in the small town I grew up by. It was called Ken's Den. Even had the red vinyl pleated door with a tiny diamond shaped window. Oh what a den of iniquity! Just full of loose, tawdry women, and the demon rum! At least that was the opinion of the little old ladies of the community. We couldn't wait to grow up to be old enough to go in there.:D

That Linnie's Sunset sounds good Ken. Haven't had one of those in a while. I think the store is still open. I'm going to make a quick trip!

Doesn't make it hurt less but it's just part of the growth process. You'll be a stronger and better man for it though you'll still feel the hurt for a while.

So, is this lounge the kind of place that if you spend too much time there in the evening...you can get a real good cup of coffee as the sun comes up the next morning?

I had no idea. That is indeed sad to hear.

I never really understood why you can brew your own beer or make your own wine, but can't distill your own liquor. But then again, I haven't given it a lot of thought.

Ken Leinenkugel is what made me start drinking beer. Ended up in Wisconsin a couple of years back for a Briggs and Stratton training and they had it on tap in the bar at the hotel. It was amazing. The night I got back to VA I went down the street to get some Bud light for the wife and low and behold there was that nice blue label with an indian on it. Made my night.

This reminds me! As of today, guys, Mrs. mnblade and I have been married 10 years. The kids are out of town and we have two great steaks in the fridge. After dinner, a nice long stroll to a little wine bar we know for a glass or two. If I spy a good cigar for sale along the way, I just might have to get one.

Like this sub forum a lot as well.
Same friendlyness as on the Spyderco forums I've been frequented for a good part of 5 years.
Don't post very often because the only traditionals I can get my hands on without spending a fortune on taxes and shipping are Opinels, Herder Sodbusters (don't like the F&F on those and are quite expensive as well, about eur 50 for a Junior with wobble) And Victorinox(not really traditionals I'm afraid)

Furthermore I don't drink hard liqoir very often. I always end the day with a couple of half a litre cans of budget beer.

Don't smoke cigars, but roll my own cigarettes of "Zware Vanelle" strong tobacco

I'm divorced 10 years ago and have a son of 14 years who lives by his mother a 2 hour drive away. Lukily my ex and I get along fine.

I hope to score a carbon steel Traditional Penknife one day to kick my Alox Soldier out of my pocket.
