"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

This is not going to end well.

Looks like it's not going to end at all...

The story anyway.

Sitting on the swing while my neighbor/contractor finishes up the last two doors in my house to call this flood business done for me. Very blessed and fortunate to be this far ahead.

My wife and I took advantage of a break in the rain this morning and took a drive along the stretch of Highway 1 between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. It was quite windy and the sea foam was clumping in big, undulating mounds on the shore. Occasionally bits would break free and fly down the shoreline like clusters soap bubbles.

This photo was the best I was able to capture it, but it doesn't do it full justice.

I hope everyone's having a good weekend.

Man, that makes me miss my days living on Monterey. The north central coast is simply amazing to me.

Joey I really hate you had to go through that flood and how bad it affected you but I am really happy you have now got past it. I don't like seeing bad things happen to good people.

This is/was "Hootie" - a Dapple Dachshund who came to us 12-years ago. Thursday night (just after dinner) she started gasping for breath and started to spasm. Blood started coming from her mouth along with some white foam. I called our local vet and we rushed her to the Vet Hospital where he met us. She was gone when we got there. All of this was totally unexpected. No signs of any type of sickness or abnormalities. We got home about 9:00 PM and we left her in my truck so no insects, etc. could get to here before we buried her. The next morning I dug a grave for her and Cindy and I put here next to Scruffy and Angie - two of our dogs that had passed some time ago. Big ole Modoc Ed cried. She was such a great dog - aren't all of our dogs. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Here she is when she was just a puppy about 8-weeks with her brand new red collar.

My condolences to you on your loss. :( She was a beautiful girl.

I'm sharing similar pain myself right now. I lost my pup and best friend of 13 years on Thursday. She didn't eat Wed night and was listless when I left for work Thurs morning but she was an old girl and had her good days and bad so I didn't think much of it. Stopped to get her special treats on the way home to try to perk up her appetite, but when I got home that evening, she had passed. It's killing me that she died alone. I'd've done anything for her.

This is my Kody at Christmas a few months ago.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Being the dog person I am, I truly feel your pain. Hearing your story has brought a tear to my eye. For you, for Kody, and for the dogs that I have lost and dearly miss. My prayers are with you and Kody.

My condolences, Ed. Hootie looks so sweet in that picture.

I'm sorry to hear about Kody. Please don't beat yourself up about not being there. I've had the same thing happen, and I suspect some animals wait until they are alone to pass. I don't know why, but some cats and dogs have an instinct to go out and find a hidden place away from other animals and people. The important thing is you gave her a good life.

So much heart ache, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I once tried to explain the bond to someone who had never been around dogs but I had to give up, I just couldn't put it into words.

Tomboy so sorry to hear of your loss of your Kody. In the picture she has a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face. This only comes from a happy dog so you no doubt gave her a happy and satisfying life. Our animal friends become very much a part of our families and we love them as such. It seems a lot of our Porch family have lost their furry friends as of late and my sincere condolences to all of them.

What a little sweetie! I would miss not having her around as well I'm sure.

You weren't there, but your heart was with her the moment you stopped for those treats!

We put down our Lab of 13 years, Indiana Bones, last fall after bowel cancer made it too hard to go on. We got Indy the first Christmas after we got here, so he was through a lot with us. I can say the pain eases up, and nothing better to speed that up than another four legged friend. We did that, got ourselves a Lab at the shelter. Poor guy was turned in after being with his family for 9 years. Riley E. Coyote is now one of the family and we're so glad to have found him!

AlwaysTomboy, Very sorry for the loss of Kody, February 25th of last year we put our Buddy Boy (my avatar) down. He was 13 yrs old and the greatest canine companion I've ever been blessed with. Heartbreak is an understatement but the wonderful memories aid in the journey forward:thumbup:

My condolences to all. It's been a tough year. My oldest son lost his tiny poodle and I had to put down one of my Newfoundlands. A large one at 170 lbs. Big or small they own your heart.

My condolences to all who have lost a faithful companion. Having spent my lifetime appreciating canine companionship, I can definitely relate to the feelings of loss. A year before last, we lost our sweet Allie, a boxer, to heart disease. She was only a year and a half old. We have two other rowdy family members now, displayed below where they aren't being so rowdy at that moment. I agree with Tom (Bugdoc), getting another four-legged friend certainly aids in the grieving process.

Tomorrow is March 1st and it is national Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia day. As a dad of a daughter who has GT I thought some may be interested in a little info. Not looking for sympathy or concern. I just thought I would help get the word out as GT does not get much attention in funding.

Thank you for sharing, I hope your daughter stays safe. I know some folks with bleeding disorders (different ones, I think) and it is certainly no joke. My thoughts will be with you guys this coming month.

Lots of tough losses here. Agnes Sligh Turnbull said "Dogs' lives are too short. Their only fault, really." Some truth to that, but even there they can't help it, they are what they are.
