"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Gutted for you Ed, I lost one of ours almost exactly a year ago. The pain is indescribable. Thinking of you.

Ed, my most sincere condolences, no matter what it's never easy. February 25th will be one year since we put our Buddy (my avatars forever) Boy down. Like you "Big Ole Paul" cried. Hootie was so blessed to have and your wife as such loving owners.

I pulled this big guy out of the garden yesterday.

It's a "Cosmic Purple." Really interesting flavor. This is my first year growing carrots, and this is the biggest one so far.

Sorry about your loss Ed. We lost our little pup of 13 years a few months ago. I don't care what anyone says, they're as much family as any other member.

Ed, I'm so sorry for your loss. As you can tell from my avatar, I am a dog person. I know how deep the connection is with our dogs. They are not just animals, but are truly family. No words right now can help, but know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Tonight, I wish for everyone's safety who is affected by the Oroville dam emergency.

I missed the news on the radio this morning, so had to look this up, but I share your concern John, hope everyone is going to be OK

Sorry Ed! I haven't been around in a while and I come back to this, I hope the fond memories dull the pain of your loss.
Steven

I don't venture in the Lounge very often so I am a bit late but I feel it needs to be said.
Ed, I am very sorry for your loss. I ,as many here, can relate and feel your pain.

View attachment 687061Ed, you have all my sympathy. Just about a year ago I had to put down my faithful road buddy, Chauncey Gardner, a boxer/lab mutt that I picked out of a litter of seven, so I know the pain you feel.

Sorry to hear about your pup Ed.
I was glad to be able to help my elderly next door neighbour last week with the "funeral' for her friends mutt that was so old it had to be given the green dream.
She was over 100 in dog years and when visiting would always stagger over for a pat from me. I don't give out dog pats often.
The friend had brought her to next door in the boot of the car -it was 38 degC and she was trying to dig a hole with the wrong kind of shovel.
I volunteered my help and they gratefully accepted. so i got one of my hole digging shovels and did the job.
Then there was the matter of removing a full sized cattle dog from the boot and carrying her up the hill to the grave. I really don't know how these women had thought this one out because without me and my wheelbarrow it was going to be a struggle.
My neighbour is over 80 and has suffered a stroke so she wasn't much help other than volunteering the site. I let the other lady take some time to fuss over her old dog and then we gently handled her in a blanket into the barrow and off we went.
I had to strongly oppose the idea of interring her wrapped in the blanket- obvious bio degradability reasons .
So I laid her to rest under the trees at the back of the garden . And we took a few moments before the scattering of some earth and burial.
I had a dracula stake crucifix which i had made of some spotted gum for my kids games  which I offered to mark the grave and it was gratefully accepted .
RIP Keera.

on a lighter note -Nice carrot there trouthound! mine were so pathetic and small the fewal wabbits ignored them compwetewy in favour of my stwawberry pwants . I've since caged the plants and have just eaten a sweet tasty strawb.

Thanks meako, I haven't had much trouble with rabbits. I think they have too many natural predators around my place. The neighbors' chickens, on the other hand…I was irritated when they dug up a few peanuts, but I was downright furious when they dug up two tomato plants! Cue me, on literally the two hottest days of the year, building a fence and gate around the whole garden. I haven't tried growing strawberries yet, maybe one of these days.

Well done, helping the ladies with their dog. My uncle always said that anyone who won't help dogs or the elderly is not someone with whom you should associate.

The day of the burial my son Ryan was after catching a Diamond python that was apparently residing under the neighbours garden deck. Also where the feral rabbits that she hand feeds hang out.
HMMMM. I would say its probably one that I released there a few years ago- the rabbits multiplied at one point there was 5-now we are down to 2- take into account a rabbit will keep a python going for up to 12 months.
