Sorry to hear about your pup Ed.
I was glad to be able to help my elderly next door neighbour last week with the "funeral' for her friends mutt that was so old it had to be given the green dream.
She was over 100 in dog years and when visiting would always stagger over for a pat from me. I don't give out dog pats often.
The friend had brought her to next door in the boot of the car -it was 38 degC and she was trying to dig a hole with the wrong kind of shovel.
I volunteered my help and they gratefully accepted. so i got one of my hole digging shovels and did the job.
Then there was the matter of removing a full sized cattle dog from the boot and carrying her up the hill to the grave. I really don't know how these women had thought this one out because without me and my wheelbarrow it was going to be a struggle.
My neighbour is over 80 and has suffered a stroke so she wasn't much help other than volunteering the site. I let the other lady take some time to fuss over her old dog and then we gently handled her in a blanket into the barrow and off we went.
I had to strongly oppose the idea of interring her wrapped in the blanket- obvious bio degradability reasons .
So I laid her to rest under the trees at the back of the garden . And we took a few moments before the scattering of some earth and burial.
I had a dracula stake crucifix which i had made of some spotted gum for my kids games

which I offered to mark the grave and it was gratefully accepted .
RIP Keera.
on a lighter note -Nice carrot there trouthound! mine were so pathetic and small the fewal wabbits ignored them compwetewy in favour of my stwawberry pwants . I've since caged the plants and have just eaten a sweet tasty strawb.
