"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I remember them, but I never watched the show. If I remember correctly, I probably felt I was too old to watch them. I really don't recall what years they aired.

I suppose there were people in those suits. I wonder if anyone knows who they were. Google time.

I'm still convalescing from salmonella. Might be a good time to get out my Super Chicken DVD.

Me too, but the CeeLo looking guy second from the right kinda scared me.

Hahahaha. I can't stop laughing at the CeeLo reference r8shell. :D:D:D:D

A lion, a dog, a chimminipansy, and an elephant, that's right. I'd forgotten their vehicles, but I'll never forget Super Chicken's Super Coupe.

:D :)

They were shown here, at a time when kids TV was really bad or non-existent, so the show was a treat to wake up to on a Saturday morning! :D They also coincided with the availability of colour TVs here (about 100 years behind the US!). I never watched much TV as a kid, and have watched even less as an adult. I do remember going off to the cinema on Saturday mornings for special kid's shows - they showed exactly the same programme as when my dad was a kid - The Three Stooges, followed by Flash Gordon, followed by a B movie, such as Godzilla! :D To think I gave up all that to play rugby on my Saturday mornings instead! :D

Keep us posted Jer! :D Hope you're feeling better now mate, nasty!

I vaguely remember that TV show. I would have just been starting 6th grade when they came out in 1968. Still at an age when I would get up and watch Saturday morning TV, but if I recall my main attraction at the time was that they did re-runs of the old 50's Superman TV series on Saturday mornings. '69 marked the start of what we then called Jr. High and you go from being the oldest kids at your school, to the youngest kids at a new school. Significant culture change there and you switched to more "teen oriented" interests very quickly.

So my hunt last weekend was a bit of a bust. It was the one weekend us archers had to share with lucky rifle hunters, at least in my particular favorite hunting grounds. The noise and din those guys created was enough to chase any four legged hairy thing deep into the depths of whatever places that we couldn't or didn't get to. So instead, I focused some of my efforts on mushroom hunting, another of my favorite pastimes and I actually scored quite a haul!

Some of the scenery I got to enjoy while wandering about:

Some chanterelles! I picked a good 5-6 pounds I think once somewhat cleaned and trimmed:

How about some Lobster mushrooms? These are one of my very favorites and I found so many!

Anyone here like Chicken of the Woods? These are especially pretty and picturesque, very tasty too!

Apologies for blasting you all with a load of pictures but I see it as a silver lining to an otherwise unsuccessful hunt.

Chanterelles make a fine soup and sauces too, very good stuff. Watch out for the magic in mushrooms though....;) some fungi here in Europe are very similar looking between poisonous types and edibles.

I'd say it was a fine haul from the woods.

Fabulous forest fungus fotos! :D

I am not woodcrafty enough to know the difference between edible, poisonous, or hallucinogenic mushrooms so I'll stick to whatever they sell at the grocery store. :)

Thing about Nostalgia is that you can't get enough :D These discussions about cars and TV programmes got me thinking about the American animator geniuses of Hanna and Barbera  Who recalls their 'Wacky Races'? and' The Flintstones ' remain for me an iconic piece of Americana, comedy and satire!

Bob, still no sign of any e-mail I'm afraid, sorry my friend.

Regards, Will

I am wondering if the kids who came of age in the decades of 2000-2020 will look back on these days with some sense of fondess or not? Seems like 2000 was about the last good year I remember.

They look delicious, and so much easier to pack out!

We have a false chanterelle over here that some folks will pick by mistake and then regret it later.... And the Chicken of the Woods, otherwise known as Sulfur Shelf, is not agreeable to everyone. As long as you harvest it when it is nice and tender and quite colorful and NOT growing off eucalyptus, it makes for a rather satisfying meal for those who don't typically react negatively to it. I would absolutely love the opportunity to go mushroom hunting in Europe, I find mycology to be wonderfully fascinating.

Fabulous forest fugus fotos! :D

Thank you! And yes, you can't go wrong with the grocery store. Portabellos are fantastic!

Ha! Yes indeed! I think I left with around 20+ pounds of mushrooms. Much easier than the hundreds more that I would have otherwise had to haul out.

Just googled it. 1968-1970. I went into high school in 1969, so I guess that's why I never watched them.

I graduated High School in 72 and if I was aware of them back then my would be Hippie type lifestyle left my memory a little "smokey" from that time in my life.
