"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

3 hours at the ER later and heaps of paaaain! was jogging, lost my footing and smashed my elbow into the curb, possible fracture so gotta head to fracture clinic...my boss ain't gonna be happy! :thumbdn:

Sorry about ur elbow, hope it's just a minor trauma with no fracture.
Oh, and as a sidenote (from one who works in the "industry" :) ) the last thing u should think about now is ur boss...u will have time for that...now just try to relax and get better.
Fausto

Get better soon, Robert! (Now my elbow which I smacked on my Olympic bar last night doesn't hurt nearly as bad.)

Thanks guys, home for a few days...as it stands it might be just severe muscle damage, there is what appears to be a fracture/chipped piece of bone but they need to look into it more (what shows up and the location might prove it older than last night). Sleeping has been impossible, good thing i touched the edge up on my knives friday night :D

PS. typing one handed takes so long lol

Gentlemen and ladies, do you prefer your slipjoints to be razor sharp out of the box, or do you not care? You'll put your own fine edge when you get it home?

An old post but an eternally relevant question. IMO a knife is a single purpose piece of equipment. It's there to cut stuff. I don't expect to have to "fix" something I just bought brand new, what ever it may be. That new car I just bought should run perfectly. That new pistol I just bought should go bang every time I pull the trigger. That new television I just bought should, once hooked up correctly, produce a clear sharp picture for my entertainment enjoyment and that new knife I just bought should cut. I don't care how high the wow factor is for a knife, any manufacturer who passes a knife on to the market place that doesn't cut hasn't produced a quality product and doesn't deserve my money.

This is how I feel about it too.

Owch!

Ya have my sympathy bud. Didn't they give you any pain meds? If need be, push for an MRI. Take care of yourself, I know first hand how it sucks to be laid up!:grumpy: When in doubt, drink. It may not help, but after a bit you won't care.:D

Carl.

Anyone else ever tried to be a one-knife guy, but just couldn't be one? It started with a Yellow Case stockman, then went to a Case Peanut, from there to a Buck 110, and now I'm back to the stockman. This is been over a period of six months or so. When I purchased the Peanut, I said to myself, this is it, I'm done buying knvies and I'm going to carry only this knife. Well that lasted about a month, and then I went to a different knife. I wish I could be a one knife type of guy :( Atleast I haven't bought a knife in 6 months or more :D

I can seldom keep the same knife in my pocket for more than 3 days in a row. I'm faithful to my wife so why be faithful to a tool? I like variety in my EDC.

Carl.

They pretty much told me to take a tylenol, a friend is a nurse though and she gave me a couple oxycontin for when its really biting, so far sitting still and relaxed I've been able to breath the pain out...but 5am this morning I took one, was crazy how a simple fall can do so much...but at 6'7" it would have been like watching a coastal redwood get cut down. ;)

I'd kill for some whiskey or scotch right now! :D Thanks mate!

Hang in there Robert. I had an accident this summer that needed stitches on the side of my knee and I could barely walk for a few days. Hopefully you'll heal as quickly as I did.

Here's some pics:

OUCH!!! how'd you get that? I can see some bruising couple inch below it, looks like you hit it hard.

I was on a rented scooter turning around in a gravel driveway when it started to go a little sideways. It was a brand new scooter and I didn't want to lay it down. I ran out of space and grazed a parked F250 work truck. My knee got cut on the sheet metal of the wheel well. The scooter was fine, though. In hindsight I should have jumped off.

Oh damn that sucks! you think after an accident what you could have done different, but it happens so quick.

I took this picture about 5 minutes before it happened. It's the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay.
