"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

I only recall seeing the word "thwittel" in The Canterbury Tales as part of the description of the Reeve, with very little detail to speak of at all. Any further info would be useful, as there is mention elsewhere in the work of knives (as well as fancy pins) used for facilitating trade.

Looks like I missed out on some Christmas drama here... All for the best, I think, Christmas can be stressful enough as it is without other outside elements negatively impacting it.

Peregrin Peregrin and @knarfeng, thank you for all that you do here. You guys have a rather unenviable and oft unappreciated job. I hope that despite the undue attention you received, you had a very pleasant holiday with your friends and families and hopefully we all will do a better job at making your responsibilities here easier.

Changing the subject somewhat, my wife gifted me with something rather thoughtful and extraordinary. I love my wife dearly but she is generally more comfortable allotting me money to spend on my own gifts rather than trying to figure out what knife or gadget is currently on my short (or rather long) lists. This Christmas she went well out of her way to gift me something that I was not actively seeking but ended up wholeheartedly appreciating and loving. It is a rather large display/storage case made of oak with locking bars, a glass top, and brass furniture. I think you can make an educated guess as to what is going to be displayed/stored within... Perfect timing too, my old cigar humidor was getting particularly short on space...

A very thoughtful gift.

Wow! How thoughtful. She did great!
I have not seen many chests like that with a glass top, that is just perfect!
Congrats!

You now owe her big time my friend . That is an excellent case to have .

That's a great display! Like Ramrod said, I've also never seen one with a glass display top section like that.

Merry belated Christmas to everybody.
Internet was limited up in the PA backwoods over the holidays.

Really bad cell phone pics of the PA Elk herd laying around:

........very nice pic there, Gary - congrats to the missus  Peregrin Peregrin

Pics like that make me think more and more - you guys in the 'States have a proper climate, here in UK, we just have weather :(

Don't think it's just Britain, Paul. Here in Scandiland we had some decent snow on St Stephen's/Boxing Day just about -4c and sunny. Nice to go out for a walk. But, didn't last. Temp went up to +2 and rain turning the snow to mush&sodden slime, hate walking in that.

Ten years ago it was -26c on St Stephen's and a good 50cm of snow. Now it seems to be perpetual sodden autumn but with endless dark:eek::poop:

- most of all, Will........I think the Brits just love to moan about the weather :D ...........and originally from Kenya, I can join 'em in their moaning, with the greatest of ease..!

Actually had a gorgeous blue sky day here today.........I just have that expat miserable streak from time to time cos I miss the wide horizon and the wild ;)

I'll let her know, Paul.
We get some crazy winter weather here in Central New York. Our prevailing winds are typically west and north west which brings us what they call "lake effect snow" from two of the Great Lakes, Ontario and Erie. It can be sunny one minute and the next a snow band will come through and visibility is zero. We get some big snows here too. Keeps it interesting!

Four seasons in one day - sounds like a good name for a song too...

Current temp 68F, predicted high 74F, low for the night 53F here in Ventura, CA

I have 12F outside right now, and tomorrow night is supposed to hit -11. Wanna trade for a few days? My chickens are all grumpy sitting in their coop wishing for warmer days. They have another 3 months wait ahead of them!
