"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

So my son lives in NYC in Manhattan. I could not do it. But, he is in finance and that's the center of the universe. So, he lives in a Condo in FlatIron. He had some people in yesterday to repair a couple things. The knife I gave him last year is now missing. Damn!. I bought him a Case Copperlock in Abalone and had his initials engraved on the bolster. It more than just another knife, if you know what I mean? If it doesn't turn up, I will send him one of my Wall Streets, I think. But still. It sucks to have somebody walk out of your apartment with your knife! Anything but your knife!

I know it's not a consolation, and JP's remark about humour is spot-on, but thieves exist all over-even in small places and not just big bad NY et al. Few years back some workmen came in to drill some hole, I found a CASE Sodbuster had gone walking(well I suppose it might've been picked up with tools by accident...but it was the only pocket knife in the kitchen) Two days later I discovered that 3 bottles of wine had also taken a walk from my wine racks inside a cupboard! That settled it. But the problem is I will not confront people unless I have total proof, otherwise they're just going to shrug their shoulders and say you can't accuse me of thieving. Sadly true. Now I won't let anybody in unsupervised. Fortunately, the vast majority of people everywhere will respect a person's home when they have to work in it. This left a nasty taste though...:poop:

That's really bad news guys  When I was an apprentice motor-mechanic, my 'gaffer' gave me two pieces of advice I remember; never tell your neighbours what you do for a living, and; if you ever have any workmen in your house, make sure there aren't any of your tools lying around. In some cases, they don't even regard it as theft, they just think any tools must be theirs, in the same way that many smokers think all cigarette lighters belong to them  I don't let anyone into my house unsupervised, and if I am having any work done, I make sure all the knives, tools, etc lying around, are put away. Sickening that you even have to even think about it really :( Hope your lad's knife turns up Alan

Here's what we can see these days on most tv channels : (not a tradi, but we're in the lounge, ain't we?)

So they stopped showing re-runs of MacGyver! :D

Oh...I don't know about that. ;)

So cheesy!

Totally agree Will. I guess that's how we all learn. I can't teach him everything!;)

Well, I'd previously understood that Valhalla was where the bravest Viking warriors, chosen by Odin to aid him in his battle against the wolf Fenrir during the coming Ragnarok, were led by Valkyries to spend their days in its vast hall, made from spears and golden armour, feasting on magical boar meat and mead, and fighting, their wounds being healed each night, so they are fresh for more feasting and fighting the next day...

So I was a little surprised to see that it is in fact a quiet bar on a backstreet in York, where two middle-aged gents have a friendly chat over almost empty glasses  But, hey, call me a pedant! ;) :D

I guess it'll be different during the town's annual Viking festival next month! ;)

Though the Viking warriors may have to lower their expectations in terms of the 'magical boar meat' o_O
