Carothers and Guns

And good morning.

Happy Thanksgiving all! This .44 lever has quickly become one of my favorite guns. I’m thinking about picking up a .44 revolver to keep him company. Any thoughts on a Ruger Redhawk vs a S&W 629? Any other recommendations? I’m thinking a 4-5” barrel.

Personally, I'm a Redhawk fan. They're rock solid and very easy to take apart to work on and/or upgrade. I much prefer the front sight system on Rugers as well - it makes sight swaps a breeze.

BUT - get your hands on a new Anaconda if you can, before you decide. 😉

Both are available currently, the Redhawk and the Anaconda. The Anaconda is a few hundred more expensive. Do you mind sharing what you like better about the Anaconda? Thanks!

The Anaconda is more nicely finished and has a really nice trigger. My version of the Anaconda pictured above is the "bead blast" finish which, for a field gun, I like. But it is also available in a polished stainless steel. Of course, it's also more expensive than the Redhawk, but you get what you get what you pay for. It handles full-house .44 Mag very well. The only thing I've done to mine it put a Wilson Combat front sight on it, which I like a lot more than the ramped front sight, but that's a personal thing.
