Carothers and Guns

Done did it.

Starting setting up the 1301 today. Patterned a few different 00 Buckshot loads at 10 and 15 yds. This one seems to like Rem Express the best out of that, Win Double X and Fed Force X2.

If anyone else picks up one of these fire breathing beasts, I’d be curious to hear what loads you’re liking. The gun is crazy fun and a lot scurry.

Birdshot makes a great bead blast material for removing paint. ;)

I have been really impressed with federal 8 pellet 000 buck. In my Benelli m4 it really stays together at 25 yards. Not a super tight pattern at any range but no "fliers." I like #1 buck over 00 as well.
Cool. I saw something about 9 not packing together and flying as well as 8 pellet. Are you a proponent of tight grouping or spreads? I’ve seen guys argue for and against “flight control” type loads…mostly for inside the home defense I think.

I like a somewhat tight pattern. I don't have Flite Control loaded up right now. All #1 buck at the moment. I do have some flight control stuff on hand though.

Flite Control held together much better at range campared to Versa-Tite in my testing.

Flite-Control and Hornady's Versa-Tite are both excellent. I'd use either inside or outside the home...Buck, #1 or 000.

Recent testing shows the 8 pellet loads to be superior under most circumstances.
Hmmmm...

Owing to the rarity, willing to trade 1 box from my stash of Federal Flite Control #1 for something equally rare, like a CPK Shiv or BD 😂

I grew up shooting .45 Colts with my dad at an indoor range in our town. A lot of memories there. He had several over the years, with this MK IV Combat Elite being his last one. We lost him last year, so it’s been handed down to me to enjoy for a while. Pretty sentimental piece for me.

Ammo got expensive, so my dad was into reloading when we shot a lot. Lol (He did retire at 53, so I guess I shouldn’t poke too much fun at this. ;) ) This was a 50 rd box:
