Carothers and Guns

I would like to kick off the Carothers and Guns thread with Nathan’s former personal concealed carry knife known as the “Nasty Little Double Edge”.

Softest shooting 45 I've shot . Straight back . I've stoned and polished the internals and it runs like a tack driving sewing machine . Maybe you can answer a question I have . My understanding was that they were made in Germany, taken apart and ship to New Hampshire to get around import laws . Or something like that . Is that true ?

On mine, it states that the frame is made in Germany. I never looked into the possibility that it was made almost entirely in Germany. They could’ve sent the finished Slide, Barrel and Frame to the US and final finish and assembly was done here. That’s a really good question. Any Sig experts here?

I'm no 'Sig expert' (although I've owned quite a few) but that's my understanding as well.

Bought my Dad a nickel plated Hk P7 for Father's day once . Didn't know how he would react to a squeeze grip . He loved it and sleeps with it under his pillow. Great trigger but man it gets hot . I love my manurhin mr73 . I can't but a friend in my son's security force unit shot all 6 rds into a quarter at 25 yards , freehand. I felt good about my shooting skills right up until that happened. 😜
Nice, you bought the Hans Gruber edition! I have a P7M8 and even with the heat shield you could cauterize a wound after 2.5 magazines lol it’s dead accurate though. The MR73 is the same, it can make even a novice shooter look like an expert and the double action is second to none. They have an old GIGN promotional video from the 70’s on YouTube and their top shooter is abseiling from a rock wall, stops half way down, fires at a 50 yard target with off hand (left) 6 rounds double action only with half dollar size grouping.

I had looked up the stamp marks , as far as I can tell , it was a German military officers pistol . With the fixed barrel design, it is inherently accurate . The groves in the firing chamber aid in extraction . You can see the results on spent cases . Anyway , my dad took the gun behind his house to his private " firing range " . Bang , ding bang ding bang ding , turned around with a grin and at that moment, I knew . Breathed a sigh of relief. He was shocked when I gave it to him . Second time I saw him cry . I'm 62. He is DAV Navy from Korean War Era. No regrets about that buy. Was at the gun store at the right time . Got lucky that day . Worth every penny . The Manurhin mr73, it's mine ! Love that revolver . More than my p210 . But few know about the Hans pistol in die hard movie. Ya , I see him . I had a choice between blued ( purple ) or nickle. I choose nickel . Still looks new , but that funky gas piston is a pain to clean . Awesome slim gun . Wasn't it carried for years by the New Jersey state police ? Much beloved firearm by Leo s .

New Jersey State police, Capitol police, US Park police, and Utah State Highway Patrolman carried P7M8 or P7M13. I think New Jersey State police upgraded to P7M8 and had pouches made to fit 2 8rd magazines per pouch and was featured on the Police Marksman magazine in early 1984. If I could only have one it would be P7M13 bc of the wider feed lip to cycle hollow point ammunition. Like you mentioned about the barrel flutes before, demonstrations have been done before where the extractor was taken out of the gun and due to the barrel flutes it cycled flawlessly. Teufelshund Tactical on YouTube has a 3 hr video on anything and everything you could ever want to know about the design and history of the P7 series and most other iconic HK designs.

Thank You ! I remember showing my Dad a YouTube video where some guy was shooting clay pigeons at a 100 yards . At that point he took the pistol outside and started shooting it at targets set up at 15 yards . He hit everything he shot at , bringing a smile to his face . Later he asked about its reliability and I told him what I had read about it , that it was the pistol that started the shift from revolvers because of the testing of its reliability. And a friend , Big John , a army veteran who worked at the gun store I bought it from , had one . I still see him at the VA hospital I work at every once in a while , and he asks if my Dad still has that " Hans" pistol .

I was doing some cleaning today and thought I should post a pic of one of my favorite shotguns I lost years ago...

Boat sunk on a shark hunt in the maumee River...

Some day I'll post more picture from before that tragic sinking....

It just doesn't pay to replace them. The magnetic fields under bodies of water have become so powerful that it is inevitable that firearms end up going over the side of just about any vessel. Tragic.
