Case Bose 2017 knife

For the record, there are differences in color and jigging as well.

I've been doing some more researching before I finally pull the trigger.

Historically, the Case Bose Pocketknives have used Peach Seed Jigging; now they're using Standard Jigging.

Also historically, the colors used have been antique bone and dark molasses bone; now they're using chestnut bone, dark molasses bone, and brown bone.

Also interesting to note, there are only five handle materials pictured here but they're producing six different ones this year. I THINK the 6.5 Bone Stag isn't shown but I'm not really sure.

Interesting observation. The jigging does appear to be standard this year and not Peach Seed.

I'm not sure about the other colors for 2017 but Chestnut Bone has been used on many of the annual collabs if not all of them. My 2009 Norfolk has Chestnut Bone covers and the 2015 Cattle knife was offered in those covers as well.

I could be wrong but I think the Dark Molasses Bone is only used on the knives with Damascus blades.

The top middle knife appears to be Bone Stag to my eye.

Please forget that last line on the number of handle materials. Apparently I can't count, they are in fact only making five this year.

The Chestnut bone was never offered on the Dog Leg Jack (unless I've just totally overlooked it).

I assume "DAM" stands for Damascus, right?

I don't see Chestnut Bone on that spreadsheet for the Dogleg Jack either. You implied a couple of posts ago that the Chestnut Bone might be new for 2017. My comment in response to that was to clarify that that is not the case. It has been used on many of the previous years' collabs.

Yes, DAM stands for Damascus.

Ahh I stand corrected. I was only looking at the jack knife patterns and didn't make that connection.

What is your guy's opinion of them using a wharncliffe blade as the secondary?

I think it's great. The great majority of my traditional blades have at least 2 blades, one curved and one straight (or more). A short, thin straight edge with a pointy tip works fantastically on boxes, packages, and the evil that is clamshell packaging.

What I would like to know is why the blades on this new pattern and the last few Tony Bose/Case collabs are diminishing in blade depth. The prices go up the blade depths go down. they almost look like they have been over sharpened.

Not sure what you mean by depth. The 2016 lockback has a 3.5" blade with a 4.5" handle. That's a big blade with a standard 1" extra for the handle. When closed, the majority of the blade is encased by the handle, with only about 1/4" above the handle.

What I mean is top to bottom/knife edge of the blade. the steel does not seem to be very substantial when compared to earlier Case/Bose yearly offerings.

Looks like the Tribal Lockbacks are dropping. They seem more than reasonable in price except the Abalone I saw. What besides the blade steel would account for the major price drop? Or is there another tier of quality yet to be released that I'm not seeing?

Jim, they're about $70 for a single blade. I had (sold) a Pilot Test Run in Amber Bone that was really nice. I have a bonestag on pre-order. I think you may be confusing them with the Case Bose Annual Collaborations which this year are the Eureka Jacks and are expensive in my opinion.

Dropping? Wow, I didn't expect them for a few months still.

Thanks!

image.jpeg My bonestag due any day now delayed until August. Since I already sold the amber bone I needed a replacement. I have a smooth bone like this due Monday.
