Case Copperheads- pics and experience wanted

My first of this new run was the dark red CV. The F&F was so, so bad. Both blades were off center and rubbing. I could slide notebook paper in between the gaps. The clip blade sat proud (which wasn’t a safety concern because the rounded off tip was dull as could be). The grinds were wonky and uneven in addition to an edge about as sharp as a butter knife. It went back the same day.

I opted for this as my replacement. A minor gap, but much better in all departments. I like it and carry it occasionally, but damn that first one was a joke.

That antique Rogers corn cob bone is :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yeah, that's the problem with Case. Some are as good as anything out there and fantastic for the price, most are ok and good for the price, but some are just embarrassing. I had a pocket hunter that maybe wasn't quite as bad as you describe, but I didn't want it in the house. Sent it back. The big knife store in Sevierville not only refunded my purchase price, but the return shipping cost as well, so I wasn't out anything, but its still disappointing to open a new knife and... That my friend is one good looking knife.
Sorry you had a bad experience on the previous one.

Those are my exact sentiments with Case. Have a bunch of them, love the brand, but definitely get a bad one every now and again. I recently acquired a micarta Sowbelly, and the F&F is every bit as good as any GEC I’ve handled or owned.

Picked mine up a few weeks ago. The main blade is dead centered, but the pen blade is off to the outside (can't tell if it quite rubs the liner but time will tell I reckon). Some small gaps but not too bad, all in all I am happy with it. I was considering sending it back when I saw the pen blade, but after seeing some of the examples here I decided I got a decent example, and I wanted the knife so I kept it. I intend to carry and use it anyway. I've got a couple of weeks of fruit cutting patina coming along nicely on the main blade, and this morning I put a forced patina design on the pen blade. I'm diggin' the results, and in the end I'm glad I stuck with the purchase

I've been really debating the Copperhead vs the Medium Texas Jack. Is the Copperhead seriously 3.9oz compared to the Texas Jack at 2.6oz? (All from Case's website) The former is less than 0.4" longer than the other.

well there’s significantly more bolster and cap material than a Texas Jack. The Copperhead is also significantly bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 1.5x the weight, I guess.

I got my electronic scale out and weighed both a Texas Jack and a Patriotic Kirinite Copperhead. I got 2.23 oz for the jack and 2.94 oz for the Copperhead. I suppose there may be a variance due to scale type and density as well.

There's quite a bit of difference between the two...

Wow the handle length difference looks much smaller than the blade length difference, as if the blade of the Copperhead runs further towards the end of the bottom bolster when closed, maximizing the blade length to handle ratio.

Thanks everyone for the replies, much appreciated in this buying conundrum. :D

The Small Texas Jack is built using the same clip blade as their Medium Stockman that's built on the same frame. So, the clip blade is shorter than the handle will allow.

Had a dealer handpick an Amber bone CV for me. Apparently all of them had gaps and some with blade rub. This one even has severely mismatched covers: the front is near white and desaturated under natural light (photo doesn't show it well), and the back is mostly black with orange/brown fringe.

That said I really like the pattern and all the usability of the knife is up to snuff.
