Case Tony Bose Collabs pic and discussion thread.

Why the preference for A2?
As far as a user goes I like both A2 and magnacut performance wise. A2 is so easy to put razor sharp edge on and I just like the look of a blued blade. It's easy to grind as well. Magnacut in the 62 - 63 hrc range has fantastic edge qualities and is extremely corrosion resistant but the more I work with it the less fan I am of how it finishes. It just doesn't "look" as good as other stainless steels and it's a bear to grind. Sharpening isn't bad though. I may still opt for it due to its corrosion resistance but the idea here when it comes to making one for myself is no fluff, nothin' fancy. Just get it done. Drop it in the pocket and move on to prettier things. ;) A2 being easier to work with kind of embodies that mindset imo.

The pruner is one of my favorites - its outline is so unique. If there are other knives you want compared for size against the Collab Cattle Knife, I'd be happy to take photos to help your decision making. I have a few other collaboration models on hand as well as some of the more common GEC knives from the last couple years. I really like the assortment of blades on the DE and find it to be the perfect size. To re-use a photo for comparison:

That photo amazes me every time it appears.

Really nice display of a nice collection.

Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful. The Norfolk is the greatest out of the annual collabs.

Hahaha...I knew what you meant. There's fine tuning a factory knife, but removing endcaps and the center liner and making new covers is less a tweak and more a rebuild. Still, I remember the magic you performed on a Case swayback jack.
That's a coincidence because I just did one for a fellow yesterday. A decoy carver that had one he used and wanted the ole regrind done. It came out like sweetness and laser sharp. Stuck in the mail today so we will see what he thinks about it next week. This is the second one I have done for him.

J jeffbird Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. There are some really talented folks here who take great photos. Hopefully if I keep at it I'll improve!

Will Power Will Power here are some delayed numbers. I picked the pruner so you could hopefully compare the figures better but also added in the #35 Cattle Knife (my only other cattle knife) and a #14 Barlow (a pretty common pattern and I didn't have a 15 in arm's reach). Also, in contrast to my previous statement about photography, all I did for these photos was crop them so the color would be fairly accurate:

Closed Length (mm) x Width (mm)
TB Pruner (71g): 96.2 x 9.3
TB Cattle (90.1g): 93.3 x 12.9
GEC #35 Cattle (97.6g): 95.0 x 13.0
GEC #14 Barlow (40.2g): 77.3 x 8.9

And here are the main blades of each. Apparently I lost where I wrote down the open measurements so I'll have to edit this post later.

I need to ask George how he sweet talks you into working your magic spells.

Very nice, Lanny’s Clips are hard to come by, well done! 😎👍
The fact it has a pawn or “ballsac“ shield is a bonus too, I did not yet have that and to have it on something related to Tony Bose is nice too. I was hoping to find a smaller cattle knife rather than the premium stockman Which is a bit longer.

I’m in process of getting a Tony Bose Case Premium Stockman and also a Lanny’s Clip, both in ebony today. Pretty stoked.

Just had the Ebony Stockman arrive last night in the mail, and while it’s a little larger than what I’m used to carrying, it is staying. Just such a nice knife in hand. The larger size really suits ebony wood and I haven’t been able to stop messing with it since I opened it last night. Hope you have the same experience with yours.
