Case Tony Bose Collabs pic and discussion thread.

This pattern has been calling to me. It’s just so cool looking. How does it carry?
I had an ebony Coffin Jack for a couple of years. It carries quite well, the only reason I got rid of it was I felt the pen knife and the drop point were too similar in profile to justify the extra handle thickness.
Out of all of the TB collaborations the only one that has stuck around is the Eureka Jack.

In an Ideal World (which it never has been..) I need to get somebody to lend me one of those or the Chestnut Bone version to test it out for a week or two  It's a lot of cash for me to plonk down only to find it's not my thing. On the other hand, it could be just right🐂
You're perfectly welcome to borrow mine for a week or two. You have to come & pick it up though.:)

Yes they are alot of money. I've been carrying a pocket knife every day for about 60 years, and while I also have "a few" modern folders, traditionals are my first love. With the more modern stainless blade steel, and attention to detail, these Case/Bose collaborations have me spoiled.

And, today's carry:

Chestnut bone Will? Truth be told, I thought Case should have called it pumpkin instead.

Though the craftsmanship is excellent, I find the WT unpleasantly heavy for its size.

I wish I still owned the WT. I would send it to Finland for your perusal. Alas, I couldn't get past its leaden mass and moved it along. All's well, the WT morphed into a Sardinian resolza.

How would that work BTW? Would you still be charged VAT for a knife that you didn't purchase, one that would only be in your hands for a limited time and purpose?

My post was part jest/ thinking aloud

But you touch upon a very real problem there- if it were sent a 'gift' with moderate value all OK, were it to be bought by me or full price declared c.400 USD I would have to pay 100 USD import tax plus 25% of postal costs....🤮 Then return it and good luck with getting the VAT back later...if I find it a clunker or with issues or to return it to the generous loaner....

Can homing pigeons carry heavy loads??? :D Balloon.....;)

In the past, I have declared pocket knives as "camping equipment" to international buyers and have saved many people the burden of high vat costs. Not sure if that still applies today. Seems they find equally clever ways to take your money.

Ron Sabbagh Ron Sabbagh Works Ok if it's a private deal or a trade but buying from a dealer will be more of a minefield .

Never had any doubts about this one though and it's a prized possession. But then, I have a strong feel for Pruners and particularly liked the way Tony Bose interpreted this, very like old Sheffield Pruners or the Serpetine you can find on French agri knives. CASE knows about BONE

The pruner is one of my favorites - its outline is so unique. If there are other knives you want compared for size against the Collab Cattle Knife, I'd be happy to take photos to help your decision making. I have a few other collaboration models on hand as well as some of the more common GEC knives from the last couple years. I really like the assortment of blades on the DE and find it to be the perfect size. To re-use a photo for comparison:

D dennishy That's very decent of you, Cattle Knife pictures always welcome  I'm worried it could be too bulky, stubby, heavy or the action not so good, been brooding about it for ages. The other Stock knife is impressive but too big for my carry taste I've concluded.

The Pruner is a wonderful knife yes.

Thanks, Will

The Premium Stockman does take up more pocket space than I like, but sometimes I like a bigger knife, so when I carry it I use a small leather belt pouch. I find that it's no more bother taking it out of the pouch, than digging it out of my pocket. In some cases, it's even easier.

For comparison, the Cattle Knife is the same length as my medium Case stockmans, but quite a bit chunkier. Still, it's not bad at all in the pocket.

Tony usually carried a WT in his front-right pocket and it was always one with bolsters, no caps. Bolsters rounded over almost to the edge...ending up to be very thin. These things can be made lighter...cut center liner and drop the caps. Every little bit helps. ;)

Thanks for your insight KnifeHead KnifeHead . If I ever get another I'll make sure to send it your way for some Kerry care.

😉
OOPS! I just read what I said and realized that it sounded like I was talking about modifying the Case WT. I was thinking about Tony's custom WT's or making one so that it is light on purpose from the gitgo. I was using my dominant maker brain, not my user brain. :D

I feel a Knife Fever coming on....fortunately there's no known safe & effective vaccine against it 😻

Wonderful. The Norfolk is the greatest out of the annual collabs.

Hahaha...I knew what you meant. There's fine tuning a factory knife, but removing endcaps and the center liner and making new covers is less a tweak and more a rebuild. Still, I remember the magic you performed on a Case swayback jack.

Here's a quick not so good phone pic for comparison:

A GEC 66 stockman, a Case medium stockman, and the Cattle knife.
20230221_095055-X4.jpg

The Case is alot slimmer, but the 66 & the cattle knife are almost the same as far as thickness goes. I measured across the back springs & spacers where the bolsters meet the scales, (to eliminate the differences in scale thickness), and the 66 is only 1mm thinner than the Cattle knife. As far as the action is concerned, the Cattle knife is far superior. Weight, according to my wife's kitchen scales: Cattle Knife-91g; 66-77g; Case med stockman-62g. My measurements aren't meant to be super accurate, but just give a ballpark figure for comparison.
