Case Tony Bose Collabs pic and discussion thread.

Good to know. I definitely noticed the spring on the pen secondary was a bit lazy. I do like it a lot overall.
Both of them are great knives, yes. I've got the wharncliffe in ebony also.
If I remember correctly Tony Bose commented that these were the most difficult patterns he ever built. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting the wobble decreased a lot after cleaning, hitting with ren wax on the blade adding some oil in the joints. Probably just the viscosity of the oil. I used blue lube.

Edit: Nevermind it hasn’t. And what a stupid assumption on my part. lol

Yeah I’m diagnosing myself as OCD this has gotten out of hand but im happy to say that with the exception of getting the Coffin Jack I’ve reached the point where if I want something new I’m selling something old. For real this time 😂
Glad I’m not the only one. Ive slowed down on buying albums, but the knives just replaced the albums. 🙈

All I can say is, good luck with that! 🤣
I have the stag lockback. The main blade is a bit wobbly in the closed position, and both springs on the secondaries are a little lazy. I think it came with the territory if I remember correctly.

With the lockback in closed position - yes there is normal slight movement. I can move mine to centered. Just normal with a lockback from what I learned.

Yes I have heard the same thing. Tony said that somewhere. See post #9 where he explains the parts are EDM wire cut. Very precise.

I’m actually going to thin my Case Bose herd a bit. My Coffin Jack, two Eureka’s, and Cattle Knife are staying, but I’m going to let my Stockman, Lanny’s Clip, and Wharncliffe Trapper go. I just don’t have the room to keep them all, if I’m not using them.

I know it’s never happened to anyone on this forum before, :p but I went in a little hot to collecting traditionals, and really need to pare back! Of course, I’ll still be looking for a Wharncliffe Whittler, b/c I am weak.

I just want to tell you, good luck. We're all counting on you. ✈️

Seriously though, good luck. I'm in the same boat.

I've got 43 years worth of sharps, most of which don't even see daylight anymore. This last April (no joke) I made a first cut at a "keeper" pile. I've been re-visiting that pile each month, and there is some definite consistency with a few patterns/ knives. I'm hoping to finalize things soon, and start with a few GAWs and then start with trades for more of the patterns I'm going to be keeping. Once the GAWs are done and trades aren't happening anymore I'll move on to selling stuff.

As for the Case/ Bose collabs, I have a locking Lanny's Clip somewhere in the mail system. After that, I'll likely look for a Tribal Spear on the secondary market if I can find one in a cover material I like.

I feel what you said about that development of consistency with a few patterns. I’ve been doing some sorting of piles to keep/sell and seeing that I tend to gravitate towards certain patterns, and am cool towards others.

You just have to figure out what you really like by trying a lot.

Yep. With me, it's just like photography gear. I don't know for sure until I use the stuff for a while. Of course photo gear is another level of insanity cost.

I wish I didn’t understand that, but I do - film and digital. Also audio equipment and albums. But if you buy quality, you can usually pass on to others w/o much of a loss.

LOL After reading that I just noticed the detail in your profile image.

No more film for me, just digital. Went down the monochrome rabbit hole when Pentax announced theirs.

😂 I’m mostly digital now, but still shoot film. The clunk of that Hassy shutter reminds me of a good, strong snap on a beefy knife.

My main cameras still have the mirror slap.

To keep it on topic... I don't do many knife shots with the K-3III Monochrome, but this one is slightly OK. Some other knives that are black and steel or aluminum and steel do better IMHO.

I remember hearing that too. He had a funny quote about it saying that getting all those blades to fit in there was like putting 10 lbs of (poop) in a 5 lb bag.

Don’t know how to link to it, but here’s the post I was thinking of. I had the quote wrong but close.

Tony Bose

That LBW is a complicated knife. It has to have a cut liner between those two back blades with enough bearing surface to support the blades. That along with the cut swedges on the insides of the two small blades creates a pocket for the master blade to set in when closed. It can't be any longer than that cut liner will allow it to be. Those things are like trying to put two pounds of shit in a pound sack.

Definitely at the top of my list to get my hands on. Would love the V1 over V2 but either would do. Beautiful bone on that one!
If you get the chance Jason, grab one. I bought mine at an excellent price during my buy anything phase. Turns out it wasn't my kind of pattern but the f&f I'd rate in the top 3 of any knife I've ever owned. That includes high end customs. I ended up carrying it a few times more like a nice watch. In fact, it was made like a swiss watch.IMG_4934~2.JPG

Oh I most certainly will! I had the privilege of handling one last March along side a Holley counterpart. Both were phenomenal. I haven't been able to pry the Case Bose away from the owner. One of these days I hope to run across one.

I was curious if someone knows if the LBW was the only Case/Bose collaboration made twice. Or is there another one?
