Cast Iron Beckerheads, Sound Off!

Alright Iron Beckers, I've been passed along some cast Iron. I've seen some guides online of how to bring this pan back to it's black, shiny, slick goodness but I was wondering what have you guys done to bring a cast iron back to life? Here's some pics

This thread inspired me to pick up a 10" 4qt Lodge Dutch Oven. Camping last week my daughter and I did up a peach cobbler and it was FANTASTIC!

The photo really doesn't do it justice but we had already dug in by this point...

Next time I'll trim the parchment better so there is none hanging out of the lid.

Lodge gear is hard to come by in these parts, so I took advantage of Bass Pro's free shipping to Canada this past week (on orders >$75) and ordered some accessories!

Also placed an order for a Weber Rapidfire Chimney Starter from my local Home Depot... this thread is getting expensive... I foresee a Sportsman's Grill and a larger 14" 10quart Dutch Oven in my future...!

Cast Iron Yeast Bread Rolls with Cheddar Cheese and Bacon,

Mandatory fire shot,

It's beginning to get a little chilly so coffee is tasting better,

All my Cast Iron Breakfasts lately seem to involve bacon,

Cook drain and set aside,

Leave a little bacon grease in the pan, add dough shaped into rolls,

Cover and bake for around twenty-five minutes. Campfire cooking is not an exact science. I pre-warm the top with hot coals so it's good and warm when it goes on.

While waiting, might as well get something done,

Yeah that will do,

Out of the corner of my eye, I see something moving in the distance. A future cast iron meal perhaps,

Well, lets have a look, yeah that works,

Check the bottom, light golden brown, with just a hint of bacon flavor!

Add the bacon you set aside and some sharp cheddar cheese and eat.

Life is good,

I looked at the Weber Charcoal Chimney, but decided to go with the Heineken Chimney. At $18.00 it was a little more expensive, but it came full of free beer!

It is a packing frame of some sort I believe, some modifications to fit this specific purpose, found behind a garage at no cost to me. Nobody remembered what it was from.

Actual pit is a ten hundred twenty truck rim.

In the middle is an old fire place grate.

A piece of sheet tin for the top to keep the rain off the food and fire.

The rest is rocks from the property

I'll try and get some better pictures up soon.

Like AIG, I'm going to do something similar to your setup. It's inspirational. Was wondering if you had some more pics?

I kind of forgot about grabbing more pictures,

I'll shoot some tomorrow if I get a chance,

Here are a few to hold you over,

It's basically a truck rim with a lot rocks piled around it,

But its good for this,

Until you get this, but even then it still fun,

This is a great thread. LostViking, those rolls are a great idea. and with the bacon and cheese? outstanding! also a great idea for that lil Heineken mini-keg chimney.

I just had to pipe up just so i can be subscribed. Good stuff all.
