First up, Fire

Some Birch bark to get things going,

Add some Cherry, and we're all set,

Grill Shot,

Chop some veggies, the BK-15 is an awesome food prep blade.

Chop up the left over potatos from last night,

Slice up a piece of bacon, sauté it a bit, add veggies first, when tender, add taters,

Throw on a few eggs,

Can you ever have enough pictures of eggs on an open fire?

Throw on some toast,

And there you have it,

This post is a freakin' work of art.

I don't have time to read this entire thread right now but I am very very very pleased to see that the Beckerhead clan has taken up the chalice of cast iron. The first pan I ever bought with my own money for my first apartment was a cast iron skillet. I still have it. Because y'all are devotees, I will renew my video series on Dutch oven cooking.

I'm interested in some more pics/description of that fire pit setup you've got there. I'm thinking of building something like that at some point.

It is a packing frame of some sort I believe, some modifications to fit this specific purpose, found behind a garage at no cost to me. Nobody remembered what it was from.

Actual pit is a ten hundred twenty truck rim.

In the middle is an old fire place grate.

A piece of sheet tin for the top to keep the rain off the food and fire.

The rest is rocks from the property

I'll try and get some better pictures up soon.

I know I could post this in the community center but there seems to be alot of love for cast iron among the Beckerheads and this is the audience I wanted to discuss it in, my new found brethren, kabar relatives.

Dutch ovens have fascinated me for awhile now and I've been wanting to pick one up but have never used one.

So while at the library today I noticed a flyer fir a class to be hosted there at the end of the month by a local Bass Pro Rep.

I'm hoping to learn some of that exceent charcoal science while there and start with a good handling in theory before failing at cooking.

Hey, it's free and that sounds good to me! :D

Tried my luck at some homemade blueberry muffins today.

Came out really good. They were kind of a mix between a biscuit and a muffin.

Uh.... I ate four of them. haha

Enjoy

Cleaning the old girl up. Rinsed it all off, scrubbed it a bit to get the loose stuff off, and sprayed it down good with heavy duty easy off cleaner. Put it in a garbage bag to sit for a few days. Should clean it up good. Got some pads, brushes, and oil for it when it's done soaking.

Hey Warrior, What ever happened to this project?

I've been wondering about how your grill turned out since it's the coolest and oldest one I've ever seen.

Did she come out ok?

I started it, but haven't finished. It's just sitting out in the shed for the time being. Haven't given up on it though. Cooked burgers on my gas grill last night though, and it has cast grates, does that count for anything? :D

Oh man, Sounds like your in over your head with that little grill! :D

Better send it to me to so I can finish the refurbish! I will send it back when I'm done....... I promise. haha

Ehh... And I don't really think that counts. But Maybe if we had pics we could take a poll and decide collectively. lol

The easy off got a lot off, but there's still quite a bit on it. I'll do it one day soon.

My first one has been redone a few times over the years. It is a lot of work.

Sounds like yours is almost done. Does yours have the two bolts in the bottom? I usually take those out when I'm re-seasoning it if it is really rusted. A lot easier to get in and out of the oven as well. I did change my bolts a few years ago cause one was completely rusted.
And I wouldn't really worry about light rust on it, only bad stuff flaking off and such, cause once the oil is heated up on there it will turn black again.

Good luck with it and I can't wait to see pics of that thing cooking once again.
