CFK Knife update and company history

Link to Chophouse pics?

I wasn't taking pics of the Chophouse really. But I have some old ones and it is on the Busse site if you haven't seen it. Also a thread here. Again, it wasn't a extensive test. I was actually expecting to beat the edge of the CFK on the side of a log and have it fold, but it did not. I have another D2 iPak more similar to a purpose made chopper with a factory edge I will try out sometime.

There's a SYKCO 511 and Lueneburg in there for scale

Nono, I have posted in the threads and purchased one myself, just finished a sheath for it, but I haven't seen any use/review threads of the chophouse yet, so you had me interested.

Alas, my interest has flagged, I don't really care for CFK designs and my local Hardware Hank is run by a Pakistani immigrant who imports his own "brand" from a shop run by a relative - they're very nice to look at, many "damascus" etched blades, and he proudly displays, "Made from 420J2 steel - very stainless and easy to sharpen". Most have nice faux-horn handles (quite comfortable) and the blades themselves might be very durable (thick). *shrug* His at least declare who made them and how and of what.

Yeah My interest in the Paki knives is done - it was more about enjoying EBay sniping really. Waiting for a SFNO, another Ratweiler, and a Green/Black Trash2 now. Trying not to even look at that the new 7" INFI release today.

The Chop House bites deep and seems tough as nails so far. I'm going to strip mine soon. I have kydex on order for it. maybe I'll do a chop test with one of the 1111's and a MMD sometime with pics.

Plain or buttered?

WHOAH I am pretty dense sometime with replies without quotes, hahah.

I thought you might be talking about buttering the BLADE before batoning, like spraying it with WD40, heheh.

POPCORN. I use the Whirly Pop with plenty of olive oil, then adding garlic salt and cayenne. Better than butter IMHO.

My chophouse thickcut measured ~0.040" behind a 20-dps edge, not too bad for a Bussekin offering of that size  I love how it feels in hand but haven't used it much yet, no time. after I ordered that and a 3/16" ratweiler, I pulled myself away from Op2wks until I had each of those blades in hand. Now I have both :D I posted pics in the swamp rat subforum here. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Ratweiler-pic-thread?p=15832607#post15832607

I look forward to your chop off!

And this I will have to try, thank you :)

I beat on the Prather copy a bit tonight and it did not roll chip deform or fail in any way. It bit pretty deep for the shape and would baton decently if it didn't have that sawtooth swedge going on. The tip did not snap as I stabbed it a dozen times or so, but didn't do anything overly nuts like prying the tip from side to side buried into an oak log. Overall I was impressed. It doesn't bite like a Chop House, but that's not a fair comparison. The blade isn't made of pot metal. The saw tooth back marked up my 3 pound dead blow hammer as I was trying to break a piece off at a notch. Nothing would break. Convex edge does seems to hold up better than the original edge. If I beat on the handles of the iPak I think those might have broken. I routinely beat the handles of the SYKCO when it gets stuck... but who knows. RES-C VS Micarta with anemic screws and epoxy isn't a fair compare either.

Nothing scientific here. Like I said I would, I just took the iPak bowie out since I was playing with the SYKCO. Nothing broke.

Chop House balls deep:

Thanks for your actual hands-on honest review with photos - now that is the kind of review I value and why people come to these forums for real-life information( as opposed to the endless unsupported speculation and useless carping that some members seem to delight in)!

Other businesses that get a negative review or have one bad transaction, etc... come to a thread and usually can straighten it out with the truth pretty quickly. If CFK cannot, don't chalk it up to some secret conspiracy. Busse doesn't give a rat's ass about CFK, IMHO. The stuff I mentioned you can't buy from them anyway. It all sells out fast.

Since you probably work for them, show us pictures of the factory, the forging area, the unprocessed steel, the vaccuum hardening process, the hardness testing routine, the grinding area of the factory, the scales coming to the USA, the scales being hand made and attached, the polishing routine, etc... Show us your UK operation and your OR workshop.

I don't work for CFK.

I don't feel bad for the accusation. His first post was about the Jasons IIRC. Then the Black Propaganda Bloggers.

Charlie, do you want to talk about anything besides CFK? Are you interested in anything else on Blade Forums besides "digging deeper into this scandal"? Do you like popcorn? Do you have any CFK's? How do you find them? Where do you think they are made?

I tried to look up "BPR" but found no Black Propaganda or Black PR references, but no luck. I think it typically stands for Business Process Re-engineering. I did find a reference to Blogging Project Runway too. I like models.

Maybe it is some Military Psi Ops or Spec Ops term that isn't widely known to normal civilians on BF. Black Ops isn't just a video game. It is a conspiracy against CFK I tell ya.

Oh here we go:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_propaganda

Is this really what is happening here?

That's it. You're actually a CFK plant driving their popularity with this thread.

Your fiendish plan has been revealed.

Black propaganda is false information and material that purports to be from a source on one side of a conflict, but is actually from the opposing side. It is typically used to vilify, embarrass or misrepresent the enemy.

You mean the questions about CFK come from CFK? That seems unlikely. What seems to be happening is that CFK comes here using different names and: 1) defends it's quality; 2) defends its various claims about the knives being made in various non-Paki places; and 3) attacks those who express doubt or other vendors of Paki knives.

I agree. IMHO they watch this forum like hawks.

So here is the iPak that I think will chop and baton better than that notch-back bowie. I took it out today and it is actually thicker than the Chop House too so that helped. I'll post weight and post some pics later and thoughts if I can round some up. I will say that it did not break either, and if it rolled a little it was only because I hit the concrete slab a few times, and the factory edge needs convexing. Also RES-C handles are 10x more pleasant than a steel tang and micarta while trying to beat a blade through petrified wood.

Even though the iPak looks smaller than the SYKCO it weighs a few ounces more @ 19.82 ounces compared to 17.85 ounces for the SYKCO. The iPak handles are not that comfortable, but it does baton and chop well. It is very usable and fun compared to the Prather Bowie but the Prather knock-off has that handle which is more hand-filling but still not RES-C and not ergonomic.

The polished blades do not bind like the coated blades do for sure, so sticking isn't as bad with the iPak... looking at it closer while cleaning it up it also looks like it is hollow ground which probably has something to do with it too. Still no chipping, just some minor rolling I can feel along the factory edge.

Testament to the Busse/Scrap Yard steel and heat treat, a 30 pound log tipped over with the Chop House about 6" in the side of the log and the tip hit the cement slab. I figured the tip might be rounded, but no it is perfect. The Chop House just chipped a nice hole in my slab.

I do like this iPak. The steel is definitely not as tough as SR-101 but it is not useless. It cuts and it chops and batons and can be sharpened. I wish I had a brand name D2 fixed blade to play with.

IMHO, if you get the right CFK design it can be very useful. I also think they sell a lot of flashy lemon designs, knock-offs, and last but not least they are made in Pakistan. Noticed today this design also has that notch where the grind comes up short. Looks like it could be a sharpening choil, but something got lost n translation or maybe it is me who doesn't understand blade design.

I'm not here to sell Busse or CFK. I think there are too many great knives out there in all price ranges to waste time and money with a company that lies. The thread to me is really about that, and trying to find the truth if there's any to be found... but if Pakistani knives are decent, I'll say they are decent :) I've seen a few that are OK.

Since bladef. www site does not like the android phone, eats my posts, keeping short.
Feel free to efail me at my namesake, adding a yell, a yahooo.
