Challenge: Carry only one for a month

I'll be first up on the challenge it seems :) I'm going with two knives, as already mentioned my refusal to use my work knife (all my work gear) for anything off-duty. The two knives shall be ... *drumroll* ... the Benchmade Ritter Mini Grip and Benchmade Auto Presidio.

I confess it won't be much of a challenge to me as I've carried the exact same work knife without fail since I bought it in Jan 2014. The off-duty EDC is pretty consistent with the Ritter Mini Grip since I finally put on the Cuscadi micarta scales a couple months ago. But then I bought a full-size Grip that has stolen some pocket time since then. So I'm doing this challenge to build up more time and memories with the Ritter. :)

I'm not in for the challenge, I would crack after a few weeks!

As for the original question, if it were me, I would go custom. You can get something exactly to your taste that you know was made specifically for you. That's just so much more meaningful to me than a CRK that basically rolls off an assembly line (albeit one with insane tolerances, great designs, etc.)

If I had to do the challenge, I'd carry one of my Gedraitis folders. Made exactly to my taste, extremely capable, and at a super reasonable price for a custom.

Seems like a fun challenge, just so happens I recently spent my knife budget for the foreseeable future so let's see if I can hack it with my two main blades.

I'm going with the mini grip for work and the full sized for when I'm off.

I think I'm going to shoot for a year to start.

As I mentioned above, I "COULD" do this, but I don't think I am going to do the challenge. I just like picking up a knife every now and then to mess with it and that would pretty much exclude that activity. In practice, I use pretty much use the same two or three knives (folders) all the time. But I buy others.

Split the $700 in half and get 1 folder, 1 fixed blade? Or 1 big knife 1 small knife? 1 tactical and 1 traditional folder? $350 and you're still getting basically the best production version of whatever 2 categories you choose, and you open up the versatility of your year long arsenal tons. Or you could go like $500/$200. Score a good price on a pimped out 21 on the aftermarket and get a beer scout for the watch pocket?

This sounds like a good idea.

This is a tricky thought experiment for people who work in cities, but spend their free time in the woods. I use bushcraft knives a lot, but I usually pick a folder for EDC.

If I could truly only have one knife, I would probably choose my Becker BK16, since it is quite functional for a variety of tasks, but also quite portable.

If you want to get something really nice, I would get something about the same size with a full flat grind, probably

First pic with the Ritter was around midnight at home. Second pic with the Presidio was this morning on the way to work.

What prize do we get ?
:p
It would have to be a good one for me to carry the same knife for a month.
Heck, I swap a few times a day some days.
I don't need to, but it's much more fun to rotate than carry the same everyday, day after day.

You guys haven't already met this challenge? I carry a user knife till something happens to it, like the pocket clip wears out or something last knife I had stuck with me 3 years everywhere everyday. It stayed sharp carved wood dug holes cut food cleaned out Things got hit with a hammer a few times and finally I pinched off the tip. Here lately I been on a spree 4 knives in 8 weeks but hey that ends. I have bought 2 mini grips, a ZT 0450, and a pm2 I'll tote all 4 decide which two I like and give the other two to my friends. No you cannot have one, rather I will give them to people who cannot afford one best way to help people understand expense. That said I dream about sebenzas at night sometimes I wake in a heated sweat. I got to hold one once and just perhaps it would be damaging to the knife market if I got one somehow because I am convinced with a crk I would never need another. If anyone has one they would part with cheap my knife buying would be over for good

I have, just not with a folder before, I've been doing a lot of buying and not as much carrying. Plus it's a good way to get to know a new blade.

Just bumming around the house on my day off, figured I'd spend some time stropping up my casual carry

You guys haven't already met this challenge?

I personally have met this challenge for most of my knife carrying time, but many on this forum do not. Many on the forum have tens, hundreds, etc of knives. Most have a EDC "rotation", so they do not carry the same one or two knives daily. Me personally, I was a one knife person for years and years. Then I bought a second knife to use at work only. I have carried that knife and only that knife every day at work since I bought it in Jan 2014. Then summer of 2014 it started to get tricky because I began looking for a knife to replace my off duty EDC. It took a few purchases before finding/choosing the Mini Grip for that role. Which solved the issue, and I carried that. Well few months after I got my regular mini grip, I received a Doug Ritter Mini Grip for Christmas. Waited to make the official transition to that until I got the custom scales for it. So now I'm doing this challenge as a way to fully commit to the Ritter. Like I mentioned in my other post, it isn't much of a "challenge" to me as it is to others, but might as well make it official and have fun with it.

I'm game!

I'll be using these two:

Spyderco Delica 4 FFG and a Victorinox Alox Cadet. I may also carry a Leatherman Wingman, but I've NEVER used the blade on it, so I'm not sure it counts as a knife.

You may see the scales change on the Delica as I've already ordered some from Boomer, but it'll still be the same knife. Just in a fancy frock.

I rather like this concept myself and may try it out. The real issue, as Gator mentioned, isn't so much the price as it is the commitment.

That said, I've carried a basic blue FRN Delica 4 for over a month now almost exclusively and haven't longed for anything else. I've looked at other knives to add to the collection and pined over one here or there, but haven't really felt like I needed something else in the pocket.

I may give this a shot myself and see how it goes. I'm sure the wife would be OK with it.

I'm stoked that thing is getting some pocket love!

Well, I thought long and hard about it, and I finally decided. Came in way under budget, but I should be ok still [emoji2]

Day three for me

Doing some dishes before I head over to the local PD to finish up my application for my NJ Firearms Permit

The knife in my left front pocket for the last 6 years or so has been the Emerson Karambit.
The right front pocket knife changes out very often.
I often can't decide which one, so I'll ask my wife at times...I'll narrow it down to three knives, and she picks one. :D

My wife would have called me an idiot and left the room.
