Changing times! Updated CRK Lead Times

I’ve ordered a couple directly from CRK, they have been 6 months to a year past their projected time line. I’ve got one on order now that was ordered right before Christmas, i don’t expect it for a while. But, eventually, they’ll call/email you to let you know it’s ready.

Yeah I called seven months ago they told me id have my order in three months.. called today and now another "three months".

We'll see...

I saw an Insingo with Magnacut come in stock and sell out almost immediately today. So dealers are still getting regular deliveries.
Yes, CRK is putting out knives at a tremendous rate. I think dealer orders are 90% of the total if I remember Tim's comments correctly.

The volume is just tremendous, so any direct customer orders are going to take a LONG time now. It sounds like your best bet to get one fast is to get one at a dealer....or the secondary market

But if we want something that dealers aren't stocking we still have to order direct, or can dealers make a request for a special piece and still get it faster?

My direct order was for something special that's kind of a combination of my Small Inkosi plain and Small micarta Sebenza 31 in S45VN -> a Small Tanto blade (special) Sebenza 31 in Magnacut (new) with dual thumb studs (special) and glass bead blasted frame (special) with brown micarta inlay (my tanto Inkosi has no inlay), and a gray beaded lanyard to match the frame (special) while my lanyards are black with no bead.

I can't get that knife from a dealer.

I think this is the overall huge downside.
1. Dealers are selling out fast due to demand, flippers, and panic buying
2. If you want something particular that dealers normally do not carry, then you are free to order it direct but your wait time is a lot less desirable.

A special item is going to need ordering through the company, and dealing with the wait, but I would not go that way for a generic item. For that you should be able to pick the item up far faster than years, with a little effort.Dealers may not have it at any given moment, but you will be able to find it.

Agreed.

Yes, I know, that's why I ordered my special item at CRK online. I was just asking if the dealers who were constantly putting in orders could get that special order done faster, since you said that they were getting 90% of the orders and it's the best way to go.

Yep. I have several generic models that came from dealers, but eventually I had to place a special order while the June 2022 lead time was still around two years. I don't need it so badly that I can't wait. Just wasn't sure if it was being suggested that special orders through a dealer would be faster.

I'd rather see them increase the wait time than decrease the quality, or worse, outsource the labor overseas. I've got CRKs in s35, s45 and stainless Damascus. I won't be ordering factory direct but I'm happy to wait for an opportunity to get magnacut from an authorized dealer.

I ordered factory direct back in April. It is a large 31, left-handed Night Sky. Site said a 1 year wait for that configuration at the time. Worth it.

Question for those who've ordered direct from CRK before. Does the price stay with what they quoted you, provided there are no changes, or is it the market rate when they call you?

I’ve been out of the knife world for about 3-4 years after I settled on a setup that worked great for me--no need to keep buying and trading. Just returned because I need a Small PJ Insingo for work carry and now there's a new Sebenza model and 4 year wait times...!? Is it even possible to get a plain small insingo outside of direct from CRK? From what I gather there have been some pricy sprint runs coming out lately but everywhere is out of stock on the basics.

I did some research the 31 and it looks great though. Didn't think they could improve the 21 but I love the clean look of the hole-less scale.

I love my Sebenza however trying to track down an Umnumzaan, which is near impossible, has left me looking at other manufacturers. Hinderer has been emptying my pockets lately. Hopefully CRK can get more to dealers in a decent supply. One silver lining is maybe I can get a Magnacut Umnumzaan someday.
