Charles Lester -- Beware

Tell seller you are owed a refund. If seller doesn't make right on that asap, file a claim with paypal (assuming you paid with paypal and using purchase of goods option, not gift).

I have had blatant thefts by USPS employees. They can get away with stealing whatever comes past them. I try my best to use other carriers now.

I have lots of wood, so I am knocking on it now, out of several hundred packages shipped or received never had a package lost or stolen. Damaged yes do to sender not packaging properly. But not once lost or stolen by the USPS. My packages all come in or out of Philadelphia , PA If you have had many or some. I can only think its isolated to a certain location.

Machete Man , did you receive compensation from USPS or the sender? I'm not sure why thieves would be only working for the USPS. Other carriers must be able to read the minds of their employees.

I will just add this in sincerity and jest, If I had any influence at the post office. I would with no guarantee to sender , train them to reject packages. I can 't imagine they actually like dealing with boxes or envelopes coming open. Its really not their fault. Honestly I would consider it an honor to meet some of the harsh critics of USPS. I live on an island. Getting here should be no problem . Just walk right across.:p

They are cheap, they are efficient, miss managed yes , and sometimes rude. Who isn't.

Jake,:D you know if you worked for USPS they would have to shut the whole place down.:foot: disease.:p

We can't let you go, your contagious.

James

Echoing others here, you should be refunded by the seller, or they should provide a replacement (that gets packed and shipped properly). Any knife that I ship gets a USPS flat rate box with insurance (either included or adjusted for value) and tracking. Have yet to have a single problem from any transaction. Good luck to you and I hope the seller makes good on this.

Jake all in good fun. Maybe make the OP laugh a little. I'm an optimist. I've seen a lot of haste pessimism. If I can't avoid it , I'd rather not see it coming!

James

Not mad all , just wish they would find his knife ! I allways double up on the package , small in a large and tape it like a mummy. Plus insure it so someone will look for it . jake

Bad deal for all concerned, but...

AFAIK, it is always the seller's responsibility to put the goods in the buyer's hands, period.

I don't know how this was paid for, but if you used PayPal, the seller is absolutely on the hook for at least your purchase price.

I know it's been said a dozen times, but the seller was really living dangerously, and saving only a couple of bucks, shipping that knife that way - it was a bad choice when he made it and it looks like a worse choice now. :(

wow, I would definitely not ship something of that value in an envelope like that and then not insure it. I mean for goodness sake the boxes are free, why? why????

The owl says, "Who? Who?".

As in, "Who is stupid enough to ship an expensive knife in an envelope like that?"
:confused::rolleyes::thumbdn:

I believe it to be the sellers problem. Poor packaging. A $325.00 knife in a mailing envelope? What a joke. I have sold thousands of knives online and always box and pack well in a good solid well taped up box. I hate it when a seller throws a knife in a mailing envelope and ships it off and wipes his hands of being responsible for the safe delivery of the item. Yes USPS should handle packages better but the truth is they get tossed around quite a bit without much caution at all. Lesson learned, Send your sellers a message once you purchase an item and offer to pay additional to insure the package if they do not already pay for it as well as ask them to box or double box if the item comes in a factory box and package well. I have never had one of my items end up like this but have had boxes that have come crushed but the item still in the box and undamaged.

I always insure my packages (in 200+ shipments, it has come in handy twice - that's 1% of the time, but it's worth the piece of mind).

And I never disclose that it's a knife/blade/weapon/etc. - I always describe the contents a "tools," which, technically, is true!
