Yo yo yo!!!

What's happenin you mangey bunch of scurvy ridden mongrels! :emot-yarr:

Spoke with my brother the otherday, that little s*** went and bought a new rifle just for the trip. Turns out he got the exact rifle I have been eye-balling for a while now as the platform of my next project. Remington 700 sps Varmint, in .308win. Although, I don't want .308, its still a damn good rifle to build on. Either way, I'm going to get to help him build his up and figure out exactly what will work and what doesn't, on his dime!

Have a good evening y'all!

Make sure you point out some terrible flaw in the rifle that way he has no choice but to give it to you just to get rid of it. ;P You could always one up him with a speed goat slayer and go 6.5 Creedmoor! I had no choice but to buy the other barrel for the LMT MWS and its crazy. Have a great day everyone.

Yarrrghh! Good morning!

Xander I checked out the gun your Brother got, looks good! I don't really know guns but that does seem like a good platform to start with.

Thanks on the pins too! I was too tired to comment yesterday, just about catatonic here! I might take a rest...

Hey Strong! Good morning!

Good morning!

It has been raining here and since we are up in elevation clouds have been passing by! 54F here, I had to double check that!

Strong, if I do that then shoot it well he'll want it back! I'm going to build a .257 Roberts Improved (Ackley), but don't know which action to start with. Maybe Mauser '98, Savage 110, or the Remington 700. I may go for one of the .243 or .244 calibers as well.

Daniel, the Remington 700 bolt action rifle is akin to the Chevy 350 motor. Damn good to start with, been around forever, lots of bolt on parts and can be a serious contender with more work.

If you need more tips or info on doming pins, let me know!

I may have shot one, a friend of my Dads had an insane deer rifle I borrowed over the weekend once. I knew the model seemed familiar... I'll have to look into them. He owned 50 or so guns and it was one of his more accurate ones if I recall.

Speaking of deer I just saw one that could have been saddled up and ridden... just nuts! I had the camera so I'm checking pics in a second.

A kitchen knife with domed pins would be cool...

Yep, chances are that if someone has a deer rifle, its either a Remington 700, Winchester 70 or a Savage 99. Not to mention a Buck 110 in their pocket and a Ka-Bar MKII on their hip. I just laugh at all the fancy new camoflauge, its sold to hunters as a gimic, I bet more deer have been taken with red plaid flanel shirts, Levi 501 jeans, Redwing boots than any Realtree, thinsulate, ghillie suit, and every latest new toy. The good old stuff just works! Learn how to use the stuff before you knock it and buy "better" stuff. Hell, my rifle I am building was made in October 1918! Not a thing wrong with it. I just can't wait to outshoot my brother with it!

Off to work now. Just packed my lunch, salmon grilled, raw bell peppers, pear tomatoes, lemon wedges and a killer lemon pepper aioli sauce! Its damn tasty on some fresh sour dough.

He looked way bigger in person! I was taking out my trash a few miles down my road, it gets dropped off by the highway... these guys were in a nearby subdivision.

This guy was maybe 2/3 the size of of the first one and still massive. He never moved...

Sounds like a great lunch!

I bet it was then, we were doing some hunting from a stand and I needed something for long range. That was a long time ago, I was a senior in high school.

I agree, I did everything with my Savage .410/.22 break action and it is really all I need. If I needed a gun for survival that would probably be a decent choice.

The Buck 110 is a classic and a big influence... I have a 110 and a 112.

I hear you on being minimal, I am as far as carry goes... I can see guns being like guitars and knives, I appreciate the combo of function and aesthetics.

I might need toown something that is color case hardened though, could be important! :D

You're killing me with pics of those big Mule Deer! In velvet and well fed too! That first one looks like its 150# on the hoof! I'm going to have to look into hunting CO sometime, I'll camp out on your hill and take care of those rats with antlers for ya!

Kitchen knife with domed pins would be cool. The tough part is the handles have to be fully shaped and finished before you dome them, a couple pieces of blue painters tape over the pins, cutout so the head sticks through and hit it with the buffer. Its better to tap it lighter and for longer with the ball end than to wail away for a few strokes. You end up with a smoother and rounder head that way.

Good afternoon . I'm eating a BIG plate of charizo and eggs. It is a good way to get Jen to make me stay in the shop:D Have a good one y'all!

Ok, no more pictures of massive deer. I totally stuck my foot in my mouth because of it...

I was looking at the pictures on my phone and talking to my coworker about deer hunting (he's a non hunter) and I leaned over to show him the picture and said just loud enough, "look at the rack on that one." Right as a woman was leaving the store. She heard me and turned around and gave the dirtiest look! I never saw her face because I was looking at the pic, but my coworker was looking right at her! Geeze I hope I don't get a call from corporate about this one!!! Lol, too funny!

Subdivisions always have the tastiest deer. All fed on roses and petunias and such. Deer here in nebraska took a huge hit from disease last year and are few and far between now.
Cant go wrong with any of those actions. Im partial to the 700 action and the mauser with control round feeding. Love 6mm rounds lately.
