By the way, if you can get a surface plate early on you won't regret it, I think mine was $25 from Woodcraft. I use it on every knife.

I'm gonna ride over to Xanders house tomorrow and make sure that guy is OK. He probably just lost his phone (he does all his posting from his phone) but I want to make sure he is doing alright.
I ground out a new design tonight. I named it the tactical boner I will post a pic in the morning:D

:D I bought a Henckel wide blade and used it for a long time, it was a great knife! I always think about the improvements it needed and it is the reason I like to do rounded spines.

I used cut 100+ half frozen chickens into "8 piece" at this country club I worked at... by about 20 the crisp spine wold be noticed! Between that and chopping down mesquite trees on the farm I learned a lot about what I want in a knife.

I have my holes drilled in the kitchen knives, they are slowly getting closer. I spent an entire evening on the holes alone... I want them to be perfect. The balance should be nice as well. I'm going to finish a couple out with some wood I have while I let my new pieces acclimatize. Fun stuff, I can't wait to make them all! :D

I predict upswept and trailing points will be the new big thing... look out for more here too. I have a few in the plans that I am really wanting to start on.

Not that sharp, someone could get hurt! :eek:

Just being silly... it has a Urasuki (hollow flat back) so it gets thinner behind the edge, the edge will "sing" if touched as it is so thin. I polished the bevel until it actually squeaked. (like a clean glass)

Before stropping it sliced paper with ease so I know the geometry is there. :D
 
Just back from Ecuador. Got a couple of photos I'll post up soon. DFK tanto cutting watermelons for sea turtles near La Isla de La Plata, DFK tanto in a log near the waterfalls of Mindo. Hi guys!

Just took off my safari outfit, pith helmet and whip. The garnet sand is blowing hard in the shop, I estimate about 90 psi. Not tasty!


Next up I use voltage to erode metal, the spectacle ensues!

I would like to present ......drum roll....... THE TACTICAL BONER! haha it is just rough ground right now.It is the first time I ground a swedge and I am pretty happy with how it came out. Do not fear though there is plenty of time for me to screw it up :D

Looking good! I really like the lines and grind. Cool swedge too, they are the toughest.

I just called it a day... too tired even for coffee, lol! It was another epic one with lots done. :D

I finally have your backpacker anodized by the way! I made a new one so I could get the best green possible and it worked... man it looks cool!

Wow it is almost 8! 10 hours on the Backpackers and a friction folder today plus I ordered more folder parts... :D
 
Flatblack: I'm excited to see your work evolve. Not sure if this is totally appropriate as you start your grind but remember what the carpenters say: "Measure twice; Cut once."

Daniel: if you had known what a doozy this folder project would be would you still start it? I know I'm probably stupid to let you in on the secret but I know that the thing that makes me geekiest and spendthriftiest with my wallet is numbered editions of small run items. Just a thought as the folders come along.
