I never thought such small obstacles would set me back so much, it has been tough. My only real issues have been with getting nice holes drilled. They are good now though! :D

Learning order of operations has been harder than expected but that doesn't bug me. Just those darn holes... I bought a mill that needs fine tuning (they all do) and that has been the toughest thing to learn.

But yes I would do it again. I will make it as a knifemaker. With most professions there is school or some sort of apprenticeship, I look at this as Knife School. :D

From a marketing/business standpoint I bombed it on the folders... I should have waited until I was closer but did not anticipate things taking so long.

I feel my technical issues with the framelocks are over, if I can manage everything until then we will be good to go!


I always work hard... been in charge almost anywhere I have worked. I started managing kitchens at 20, have been self employed since I was 29. I'm a couple of semesters short of my business degree and have a 3.6 GPA (last 4 semesters with a 4.0), did it all myself while working. I moved to St.Thomas with 20$ and left with a turnkey business. These folders have been the toughest!

I think I'm there though! I'm getting the current round of knives out and have folders started with my holes drilled successfully! :D

As mentioned my base price will stay the same all year, I make no hype blades. :D I'm charging more for extra finishing work but that is it.

I'm all about measuring my handle if I'm not using a template... calipers are mice for measuring grind height too. The machinists method is the best though, just feel it... I always do it and can tell if anything is off.

005" is tough to measure but feels huge... I check my geometry this way

Not yours! :p Yours will be this week though, I'm finishing up Backpackers today then it's back on to folders!

It could be yours though, when you see it you might need it! :D I'm telling Sara I always keep the first one of any folder, she's not buying it. :D

Hey thanks again! It is great to see you really getting going with the new grinder and all. You seem to be learning fast and the aesthetics are spot on. :cool:

But seriously.. my wife always bugs me about my knife obsession... she often says, knives are phallic..

Then I find myself sketching knives and I start laughing.. OMG IT IS A PENIS KNIFE! DAMNIT... crumple crumple, throw away...

So, avoid handles that uhm, are too organic looking :D

AND EDIT THAT POST MOFO! :D

My fault on this post stuff... lets try to keep it on the cleaner side, that was a bit much. The mods are nice enough to let us be but it is against the rules. I'm against censorship but preset rules are something we need to follow... I know you are a friend of a friend and it was meant in a good way btw...
 
Also, Daniel, I loved that post where you talk about your hustle and drive to succeed. Makes me extra glad to be a supporter.

I use Paint to resize my photos, make sure to "save as" if you want to keep the original. If you use Photobucket you can right click to preview, in preview you can open Paint.

DFK wallets ? I wouln't even need a place to put money in it . I do not have any:D Just a slot to put 3 CC sharpeners. Maybe a slot for a kiridashi :D

I don't think there is enough coffee in the world to snap me out of this haze! dragging butt today! Maybe a bike ride will help.
 
I dunno kev. I had the same thing going and went for a run in the Texas heat. Now I kind of want to die. I got my college fight song stuck in my head and had some I interesting memories though. So there's that.

It has been hot here . I don't think it helps going from the hot shop to the nice cool house again and again . I will tell Jen we have to turn off the A/C haha that will work.......NOT!

Daniel, some of us are not here only just for knives we here for friendships, and we are not going anywhere because we all friends!! I treasure all your comments and your reply quotes because i can see you do care about everyone here!! So, please no rush on the folders and let the time sink and I'm sure everything will puzzle up!! I respect everyone here and enjoy spend time here, i don't post a lot but most are in DFK and i thinks that means a lot. Even with busy schedule i constantly check my phone and read all the posts, it became part of my life now!^^ Rock on Daniel and if you ever come to LA holla at me and you will find out a lot about me,,,,,i don't talk much on things but will be different when you see me!^ I'm proud to be a "Fanboy" of DFK!!!!:thumbup::D
