lol , That is funny I was thinking about asking you how you scribe a center line and then I read this lol!I think so too, I'm still just grinding one side.
Thanks a lot Daniel! I think I will try to make my own scribe. My Evenheat should be here in a week or two. I should be able to make a scribe for every thickness I use using scrap. How to scribe a center line - you need a flat surface like a piece of glass or even better a granite surfacing plate
lay your (flat) knife on the plate, get a drill bit half the thickness of the knife, it only has to be close
with the knife flat and the bit laying flat just mark the knife with the bit... some marker applied beforehand will help you see the line
the line will not be centered unless your bit was exactly half the thickness of the knife (and that is good)
flip the knife and repeat - now you have two parallel lines to grind to
Any time spent out on layout is time saved.
I'd buy some cheap calipers and dykem. With the calipers you can scribe your line, I'd have to show how to do that but it is quick and easy.I just did 6 knives like that today but scribed in a center line for pins instead.
Easy way to make a scribe - say you want to make knives .125" thick.. take a piece of your .125" stock and grind a mini knife or even a triangle. Grind in a double bevel byt leave it offset a hair. Heat treat and temper but leave very hard... sharpen and use this for a scribe instead of the drill bit
