Whats up you bunch of degenerates?!

Took a few weeks off BF for the most part to focus on nihonto and buying my first tsuba. The amount of research needed for that hobby is ridiculous but real passions never die.

Still carrying my A2 Tanto everyday and it continues to impress. Been used a ton and still glides through newspaper. The A2 is resisting corrosion pretty well even with the humidity. Its kept well oiled of course.

Good to be back, I can see the main man is approaching rock star status!

That is just excellent to hear! Show us a link or pic of that tsuba if you get the chance. Your avatar looks incredible.

Rock star... who? :D

I'd like to take a second here just to vent about my experiences with suppliers over the last year and a half. Why is it that I can't get same day replies? Or even same week shipping? Or that these sites continue to offer stuff in inventory that they don't actually have? I won't name names, but it seems that the bulk of what I tend to use just fail in more then one aspect of running a good business. I swear, if you can do same day replies, offer what you actually have in stock, and ship somewhere around the 48 hour mark; you'd make a killing cornering an otherwise neglected and malnourished market.

Now that I've vented; how is everyone? As Rolf says, HUMP DAY! Get through the grind and look forward to another great weekend!

D your fingers raw yet?

Yo! Good morning guys!

My favorite vendor has missed at least one item off of every order I have placed this year... and that is often more than once a week! At least they are nice.

Screws and washers... I use the most common size available (supposedly) and just can't get what I need. It's wacky. I run multiple projects so I can always have something going.

No soup for you! :p ...right? lol

I'm working on random stuff today.... will be fun! :)

Interesting goings on in the TimberStrain household, as my wife has decided to rehabilitate a 6-week old squirrel. Neither toddler nor hound quite know what to make of the situation.

It is cute though.

And will make a good stew if it misbehaves.

Morning all! Let's rock it!

Thanks dude! The menuki is an Edo period Nara school piece. It was an orphan so I made a deal for it to have mounted on a knife project I have going with another maker.

Here's the tsuba, Owari school, momoyama period (late 1500s-very early 1600s). The kogai hitsu ana were plugged later on with shakudo (gold and copper alloy) and I'm guessing that's who did the carving. The tilted shot gives the best look at its actual color but it shows a rich dark purplish tint in person. 8 x 8.2 cm, 5mm thick all the way around.

Would have loved to see the koshirae that it was mounted with. The marks around the seppa dai indicate that it was used for quite some time.

Liamstrain, I have squirrel experience. :D We gave them puppy formula with a feeder syringe at first, then bananas, random fruit, veggies and eventually nuts. Ity was a few years back.. they were awesome then at one stage we could tell it was release time! One has a nipped ear and we still see her from time to time.

Evan, that is just incredible! The spider and web is just the coolest and to know what it must have went through over time! Thanks for sharing it!

Morning y'all!

It's concert day! Will be heading out around 4, hoping to beat traffic through the capital, find parking and get to our seats by 6 or so. I'm stoked, I love NIN!

Evan, that is way cool!

Liam, strange things women do with their motherly instinct... but, if it's available near you use Esbilac formula. Use stage 1, not the 2nd step formula. Also, goats milk is another viable alternative. If you don't have Esbilac available, be sure to read the ingredients in puppy milk and look for Whey and Casein. Probiotics help too.

Rock on fellas!

I think Esbilac is what we picked up. Apparently at this age its about half formula, half solid veggies/fruits. The DNR (or some other link she found) also recommends science diet's Puppy chow as a solid for them to work on. Thanks X.

Evan - that's awesome!

Lol, I'm now realizing that I have learned some pretty weird stuff pertaining to animals over the years working at the store...

I need a beer...Prospector IPA sounds good!

Ah - alas, the squirrel succumbed to the internal injuries it sustained in the storm which knocked it from its tree. RIP squirrel - we hardly knew ye.

That's tough. But, can be a good opportunity to teach kids about life. My son still doesn't quite get it as to what happened to grandma's dog...

At least you guys tried! No maybe a sugar glider?! :D. I always wanted one of those as a pet.
