Hey DFK fans. Xander, a few days ago you asked if I had been making anything interesting. Well I guess that depends on what you call interesting, :) . I'm working for a company that makes Beryllium Copper. They have a small machine shop. We do rough machining for some costumers. We also do some finished parts. Also finish cast tools made from Beryllium Copper (wrenches, chisels, etc). The alloy is used because of its hardness and non-sparking properties.

very cool!

I know a bit about Beryllium as I had very rare access to a big load of ultra rare gem grade Beryllium ore... Tiffany Stone. Cool stuff and worth a lot...

Good to hear!

Do you guys have to finish it in a vent hood or anything like that? It is cool stuff! They made a few Striders with the material for blades.

Xander - nice work on the camera! Impressive dude!

Rolf - I'm all about that big tanto, elbow length! I was only wondering which car door I want to poke it through. :D lol if I was only kidding...

Guys - have a great evening!

No, we wet machine it, (using coolant), so no fumes. But we do have to wear company provided cloths that stay at the plant. Change into them at start of shift. They wash our uniforms on site. Also have to shower and wash our hair at the end of our shift. The guys in the foundry and some other areas have to wear respirations.
We use very little Beryllium, single digit % or less. Doesn't take much to change the properties of the copper.

Only experience I have with beryllium is when I was working at the lab, we used it in wafer form for our micro structure work. Similar to how semiconductors are made. High percentage beryllium, close to pure stuff. Deadly if burned (but so cool to watch!) Or atomized in dust. An ex of mine, her uncle worked for Sandia in Albuquerque in the 60's, they used to light it on fire and throw it in the air like fireworks! He is now dying from cancer directly related to it :-(

But Wilson, glad your back at the machine making things again!

Lotz of dangerous stuff out there. Careful, duuds!
Do that elbow tanto, Daniel. Send it to me for testing. NO car door testing, here.
I use re-bar. :D

Winter is comig .... Like Game of Thrones...
British girls full loaded in alcohol, British drunks, Russians more drunks.... I loooooooooove winter.

Morning fellas! Yah, it was nice to be out for an 8am photoshoot, and not feel like it was 8am this morning. :)

I rented the updated Canon 24mm PC lens. Holy crap is that a nice piece of glass. I don't know if it's so nice as to warrant the price hike over good examples of its predecessor, but it is very nice.

Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate. Pretty contrasty (and cold) this morning, I'll probably have to re-shoot.

Liam, I know what you mean with that mid morning hard light. I like it for abstract street stuff, but have a hard time with it otherwise. Even bracketing is difficult!

Found another little rangefinder on ebay, got it for $1.25! Fortunately, I have the missing parts! Seller claims it works, though we will see.

Interesante.....
It would be possible to make a knife that keeps the properties of steel?

Maybe, it is used to make chisels. Hardness is in the mid 40's on the Rockwell hardness scale. I do not know if it could be made harder.

Hey y'all
Man this cold is holding on like a greedy girlfriend! We will see if it can hold on through spicy spicy taco night. Hot sause make you strong like bull! :D
Have a good one.

I remembered to reset all the clocks in the house, except the one with the alarm. It was interesting being nearly an hour early for work. :/

Happy Monday! Make it a great one!

Morning guys! Liam, just don't do that this coming spring...

Off to work! Mondays are always crazy busy for me, lots of ordering to do.

Make it great!

mornin' y'all.
Liam, I did that once. I think it was the only time I was ever early for anything.:D
Have a great week y'all.
