Cheap rip off knives....

My wife's favorite knife is a Ganzo auto, but it's not a copy of any other knife. I bought it for her her with a clear conscience.

As for the blatant copies, I'll pass. Also, I have a hard time with them ripping off patented technologies like the axis lock, Spydie holes, etc.
I looked into that auto you posted in the game to play forum and can't find it. It's like they might have stopped making it and dedicated to clones only.

I think the knife you're talking about is the Ganzo G728. It caught my attention because it appeared to be an original design. I think you can still find them but I've got to think that importing autos might get folks into more trouble than importing counterfeits and copies...

Yeah.
That's what I was thinking too.

Ganzo has a reputation already for their rampant copying, specifically of Benchmade knives and the AXIS lock. Plenty of other inexpensive knives out there use the same (supposed) materials without copying someone else. Then again, there are normally reputable brands whose Chinese knives bear a striking similarity to an existing product. For instance, I own a ZT 0770 and saw a Boker Magnum "Slicer" selling for $14 that bore an uncanny resemblance to it. Curiosity won out, and I bought the Magnum. Then, I looked up pics of the ZT 0777, and it's even closer to that design than the 0770, the only aesthetic difference being thumb studs instead of a flipper. It's pretty blatant, and not the first time Boker has done this with one of their Chinese cheapies.

Not a lot of people know but the tan flipper is actually copied from a Browning Black Label knife called No Boundaries. Just thought I'd put that out there.

Thanks Dude, always thought I'd seen that Wal-Mart special somewhere else. I googled the Browning No Boundaries and it's an exact match.

Svord Peasant knives surprised me for the money. Add to that Rat folders, Opinels, SAKs, and Case traditionals. Plenty of cheaply priced, quality folders, from reputable companies to choose from.

So, is everyone going to stop shopping at WalMart because they sell a copy of a Browning knife? Just asking.

I am not a big fan of WalMart. About the only things I purchase there are cat food and oil for the autos and motorcycle.

No I didn't say that lol. A person said something earlier about finding cheap knives that weren't stolen designs accompanied by a pic with a pile of tan flippers. I have seen a lot of people praise that knife for its originality.

I didn't buy one, but I spotted some Sarge brand knives at a military surplus store. These knives looked a lot like Spyderco products, even the boxes put me in mind of Spyderco. It aggravated me that a company would do this in a desperate attempt to make a sale.

Lightning OTF's
Anyone else own one? Not sure if or who they ripped off but I got to tell you, these knives for the money can take some wicked abuse. I use mine for hard crap tasks all the time. Still ticking.

The Browning No Boundaries knife is from China, as well, and I would be willing to bet the Walmart clone was made in the same factory. I highly doubt that particular knife was designed by Browning.

I stopped shopping at Walmart by about the third trip...that place is a vortex of stupidity and despair and that's just the customers. Lots of reasons not to shop there beyond selling knock-off knives. How about the drag on public funds (welfare and food stamps for their employees, police intervention 50% higher than comparable stores).

I can find all I need elsewhere for similar prices (Costco for example) where overall intelligence of the customers and employees is significantly higher and they aren't an anchor on society.

The tan flipper knife is a copy Thomas. To be fair though I doubt WalMart knows it was a copy, maybe.

The WM item (AKA "tan flipper") is much smaller, has a different clip, has its scales attached with screws in different locations, and has a blade with the same grind so far as I can tell. Steel? So it is a copy, for certain values of "copy," and different for certain values of "different." If Browning's source is selling a "copy" to someone else, does Browning know it is a "copy"?

It's not a copy, JP.
