I think the easiest solution here is for anyone who feels these choils are unsafe...wait for it....
DON'T BUY ONE WITH A CHOIL...
See how easy that was? Problem solved and your fingers are safe once again.

Yeah, the search feature is a good thing to use, I actually wish more people would use it like you do. After a while, you do tend to get tired of seeing the same threads over and over.
Still, there shouldn't be personal attacks or rudeness...
I refuse to get all worked up about choils.

If there's anything I've learned about this place. it's this: BF is a great place to obtain information, as long as you don't directly ask a novice question; especially as a new member. As soon as you do, you get lots of gold members (tsk) either trolling you, or making you feel like you're the biggest moron in the world for asking it. hence, the reason why I stay mostly silent and use the search feature when I need to know something. Definitely not the most "welcoming" community out there, the mods can take that however they want to take it.
^ The longer that I'm around this place, the more I agree with your statement, WK ONE. It's really quite pathetic actually (non knife enthusiasts who's
main purpose for being here, isn't knives). It's nearly impossible to have a civil discussion here in the GD forum anymore. BTW- not all of these trolls that you're referring to, are gold member's; some are non-paying & won't contribute a dime of their money to this place.
As for their purpose being here- I'll sum it up the best I can: the troll's here, spend most of their time in their whining playpen. They occasionally start trivial negative type thread's about a certain member/subjects. They get bored, leave their playpen & go out into the general forum, not to buy knives or engage in
serious discussion, rather, to shadow/bait the member's they don't like, or agree with (this thread is a prime example of this). They then return back into their playpen, to back slap, brag about what they wrote in certain thread's & type bravado type word's that they'd never have the balls to say to another man's face (with their other member's of their pack)...& do this day after day, after day; year after year, after year. Their main goal, is to get the member's whom don't subscribe to THIER way of thinking, banned.
This type of mentality & these type of people, only do well in large groups. They are immensely insecure when alone, & most have serious inferiority complexes. They're really no different, than the cowardly gang banger's that I had to deal with, when I grew up in the Salinas Valley...
Unfortunately, it's just the way things are here, WC ONE. The sooner that you learn to ignore these fools; focus your energy on the positive people here (the one's who genuinely like knives), the more that you'll enjoy this place. I'll share a recent, brilliant quote, written by one of our Moderator's (Esav):
"How many times do people have to say it before you understand? "Standing up to" trolls is trolling in itself. Put them on ignore and see how that changes your forum experience.
Doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome is crazy."
^ Follow these words of wisdom, & your experience here on BladeForums, will improve exponentially.:thumbup:
As for getting this thread back on topic:
I never realized how vastly different some choils are, on some of the different blades I own.
My ZT 0200 & Protech Godson choils are nearly identical, as are Microtech Socom Delta Marfioni & CRK Large Starbenza. My Strider SNG & Spyderco PM 2 choil's, are unique in their own right.
Over the past few years, I've given myself a few slices & nicks either performing maintenance or using my knives (nothing serious). I don't remember if those times I was ever cut by the choil tip or area itself. The number one advantage for having a distinct choil, is obviously sharpening my blades. When I'm sharpening some of my Spyderco's (Millie's & PM2's), it's definitely more difficult sharpening the beginning of the blade edge, do to gimped finger choil design (if that's what you call it).
