It's really ugly and, assuming it isn't a total fake, which I'm not qualified to judge, it appears to be an Umnuumzaan that has had all the flats jeweled, then anodized a hideous pink, then had some roughly cut carbon fiber 'scales' added to it.

... what did you want to know about it?

First, contact Butch Vallotton directly to see if he in fact made that. It looks a little like some of his work, but the overall fit/finish doesn't look that great, especially the carbon fiber patch.

If it's a true Butch Vallotton, then yes, he's good.

I emailed Butch couple of times last one with pictures waiting for their answer back

I don't know that much about the Vallotton family history, or whether Butch himself is still active (or alive) but there are four other Vallottons continuing the trade. His son, Rainy, grandson Brandon, and two others - Cory and Kyle.

You might try to use them for contact info: https://www.rainyvck.com/

Valloton Knives is well-known, but that doesn't look like his work, IMHO. Not saying it's impossible, but the knife looks like it's in rough shape and has been heavily used since it was originally received... or the quality of the work was poor from the start.

Butch and Rainy Valloton are best known for auto knives. Butch has done a lot of auto conversions for production knives, including Chris Reeve Knives, so it's possible, but typically Butch's work would look a lot better than that. Also, if the Umnuumzaan you have isn't an auto conversion (and since I can see both pins on the carbon fiber scale and the knife is otherwise an all-titanium framelock, I don't see where the opening mechanism could be), I'd be pretty darn skeptical it was Valloton work.

Pic is from a sale thread of what I'm guessing is the same knife 6 years ago.

Gonna say its probably legit. I'm also not sure how one can talk about the quality of it from that terrible picture, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Short answer yes, but give this a look...

Notice the same jeweling and purple color. I also noted in the GAW thread that your blade has a similar modification near the plunge line/edge at the heel. It's not my cup of tea, but it appears legit and if you really got it for $20 at a pawn shop, I'd say you hit the jackpot.

Does the auto function still work? it's not my cup of tea but it's certainly got character. If you google image search "Butch Valloton" you'll fund the sales thread for your knife.

I'd take off the cf insert, stonewash and a dark bronze would look good imo.

I'd pay 21.63 for that ugly purple knife all day long. It has potential.

I haven't talked to Butch since the last Eugene Knife show but far as I know he is still alive. Contact him for more info.
