That knife HAD to sell for at least $700 - $800 from Butch.

Sounds about right. Conversions don't come cheap.

Judging by the condition and the amount it must have been pawned for given the selling price, I can only assume that it must have been "lost" by somebody. Could have been stolen, could have been lost and then found, maybe it was passed down or sold at estate, but whoever pawned it clearly had no idea of its value and neither did the pawn shop.

Since it's not serial numbered there's no real way to figure out a chain of ownership. Guessing the shop didn't know knives and couldn't look it up because it doesn't have a model or manufacturer written on it.

Crazy deal.

Man some people in this thread are real downers, I think the knife looks sweet. Congrats OP!

Why? Because someone dared to express their opinion that they didn't like it or said that it was ugly? Oh, please.
I am glad that the OP likes it. It isn't my cup of tea either.

On the few occasions I've looked in pawn shops for knives, all I ever saw was garbage that was overpriced. Either junk knives that you could by off eBay for far less, or decent low-end knives that were priced as high or higher than you could find elsewhere. I never found a "find" so I stopped looking.

It's fantastic that this knife was priced for only $20. And by "fantastic" I don't mean great or amazing, but fanciful, unrealistic, and hard to believe. This has to have been a mistake on the pawn shop's part. Like they forgot a zero on the price tag or the tag got switched or something. Otherwise, no pawn shop would have sold something like that for only $20, nor would anybody who owned it have sold it for whatever the pawn shop paid for it to sell it for merely $20. Unless it was stolen. I hope it wasn't stolen.

Exactly what I was thinking Aaron......original owner prob lost it and some skell picked it up.
I'll also bet the seller, or the pawn shop, didn't know it was an auto. The OP didn't even know.
Also, how many people would recognize a Zaan??
Pawn shop dude should've called one of his buddies!! Pawn Star reference!!

Regardless of the current condition, that's a fantastic deal on an Unumzaan[emoji106]

Hard to believe it was lost if it came with the custom case though. Like others said, its most likely "lost" or from an estate.

This pawn shop does not know how to price their knives right

That would mean that the guy who pawned it got $20 or less for it, which no way anyone who legitimately purchased it would have taken. Just remarking that it must have had an interesting path to your hands, probably an estate sale at some point since thats usually where things get massively mis-priced by people who have no interest in how much was originally paid.

Thanks for the action videos... it is really neat to see an automatic Chris Reeve. I personally love purple, so I like it.

Just thinking out loud here, it might not be too hard to figure out how this knife ended up in a pawn shop. The amount of CRK owners is small and the amount that would spend the money to customize one are even smaller. The chances of the person that originally bought/commissioned this knife being on blade forums is pretty high. I've done a search and found that hero5211314 and Liu Kang both sold a Vallotton Umnumzaan back in 2010. For those not in the know, Liu was been banned for his business practices here (just search his name if you want to know), but he bought and sold a lot of knives here. He likely bought the Umnum from hero but, I can't confirm and there's no telling where it went once he got his hands on it. I've sent a PM to hero though and hopefully he'll chime in.

The for sale threads:
From hero5211314 on 10-14-2010

From Liu Kang on 11-18-2010 Notice the similar wording of the sale thread. It should also be noted that this is one of many listings from Liu for this knife (I'm not sure which listing is the original).

go back to the pawn shop and see if you can find any details on the history.. Or how much they paid! Maybe someone remembers how that knife entered the store. I could not have been sitting in there store for very long.
