Chris Williams knife tried to rip me off for $5,150

One follow up thought because I bet this tool is reading this. As a knifemaker I don't care if you slap handles on a cheap blank and sell it with your name on it. Sure that can be debated and we all have opinions on these things. What burns me bad and makes me want to see this guy sued out of business is that he sells them as hand made.

I have two pet peeves when it comes to custom knives; guys that make knives from scratch that are junk and lose their edge after cutting three pieces of paper due to some backyard redneck heat treat, geometry of an ax or fit and finish that makes the cheapest Chinese knife look like a Victorian masterpiece and guys that sell cheap blanks as handmade marvels worth $500 that are actually $10 blanks from the back of some magazine. I despise these things because I, like many others in this craft, have invested a ton of time and money into being able to make a quality knife and crap like this just sours an already difficult market. Its hard enough to convince someone to shell out $100's for something that took many hours to craft and perfect without this kind of garbage, let alone when a growing percentage of the market gets ripped off like this...

I digress, but hope this kind of action helps keep the scum at a minimum.

Damage,
First I also want to repeat the man in question is NOT My Friend Chris Williams that makes Grinders and is a real knife maker! I think you should put this in every post for Clarity for any folks that just drop in a read a post or two!

I have made knives for 20 years, but I make them by the Stock removal method. But I have purchased Carbon steel & Stainless Damascus Billets and profiled & ground many knives out of them.

Those knives, I cringe calling them that, you purchased unfortunately do appear to be a Damascus steel which the technical name for is "Pattern Welded Steel" They just appear to be a pattern Welded Steel of a very inferior making! Many inclusions and delamations are visible and its just made from poor materials to start and inferior craftsmanship from Pakistan/India most likely.

Now keep in mind that the technology for making Pattern welded steel came from that part of our world and some of it can be top quality even today! The stuff in your knives is bottom of the barrel unfortunately.

What are you trying to accomplish by having an "Expert" look at these knives?
Please give your thoughts on this, If its the quality of the Damascus? I and many others could tell you that, if you wish a man/Lady that lives, eats & Breathes Damascus, A man I've purchased Quality Damascus, Devon Thomas comes to mind, he's been making it for 30 plus years??? A true Artist & Craftsman that makes & sells Damascus billets and finished knives as well!

I have filed one complaint with the better business bureau for trying to rip me off for the $5,150 but I figure it's worth a try to get expert testimony that might lead to a 2nd bbb complaint for either false advertising, fraudulent knives or just a poor quality product. This would be one option.

Once I have exhausted every resource on Chris Williams I plan on coming full circle and making some purchases to show confidence in the community and to show customers that a bad situation can actually lead you to quality folks. I'm going to make sure this ends well and I'll actually be happier in the end with some superior products. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way!

if you want a "Expert Paper" on what crap that steel is to put it bluntly, I would go with an ABS Master Smith! Finding one would be easy, Watch the show current running on the History Channel, " Forged in Fire" there is J. Nielsen and another one the panel of judges that is a Master Smith Watch the show one way or the other.

The man i would contact about this is a living national treasure
Master Smith Jeff Fisk, http://www.jerryfisk.com/knife_gallery/themes/av_knifesite/profile.html

I've never had the pleasure of meeting Jeff but I've seen video of him making his prized Bowie knives, That's Boo, ee! by the way, not Bowie, like the late rock star. Jeff is one funny guy and and that's where I suggest you start!

Sent you a PM

I didn't read most of the OP, but I get it. I would never have ordered that many expensive knives from some guy you haven't dealt with previously. That just seems to be common sense to me. Get one or two and check it out. Others said a simple internet search would gove you cause to pump the brakes, but I haven't checked it out. At this point you may have some leverage with the credit card banks.

Along with the fact that he clearly hasn't a freaking clue how to properly use shop tools; evidenced by this photograph of him on his website- with his hands balls deep (if he even has a pair) in his pockets...no eyewear protection prior to running a block of imitation fake burl through a table saw, neither using the fence, a featherboard, push stick or an angle guide. What a pathetic, lazy weasel. I'll be willing to bet, that this clown has never in his scamming, thieving life, invested an honest hard days work doing manual blue collar labor, much less broken a sweat.

I'm guessing that he's got to be the guy on the left...smiling all the way to the bank.

Dude that is obviously nothing more a glamour shot for marketing material. Relax.

^ And why don't you, support this forum, and purchase a BF's membership...

or buy/make comments in reference to actual knives. I mean really- who actually joins Bladeforums just to pop off here, in the GBU?

Chris :D

Brilliant- pocket pool! :D:thumbsup:

I just got home from 2 hours in surgery having shoulder surgery at the La Jolla VA Hospital- this seriously made me laugh. :D And fwiw- of course I knew this picture was photo shopped. You don't have to be a highly skilled finish maestro carpenter, to realize that they weren't pushing that stock into the blade on this table saw. You'd have to be 3 steps below an idiot to do that! That's why I found it so audacious!

What? I'm not taking the bait man. What is your point?

I do support the forum. I have made posts about knives, after all isn't this a knife forum? I didn't come here to sell anything, I'm here to learn. I'm not "popping off" and I didn't join here to make waves. I stated my opinion which just happens to echo others in this thread. I understand I'm the new guy and low hanging fruit for you to blow some steam, but nothing I said was out of line or deserving of a personal attack. What exactly did I say that took you off the rails? Nothing in your reply addresses anything I posted whatsover, it's just a hatchet job on me personally.

The quote that I made about about the photo that you seemed to have so offended you IS a marketing piece and not intended to be relective of manufacturing reality. I think I was pretty clear in a non confrontational manner. I don't think you did your due diligence and I also said your best recourse may be via the credit card. You posted the rant on a forum and I replied. I've participated on gear forums for 20 years and never seen such hostility from such an innocuous post in which the premise I suggested was echoed by other members.

Damage, if ya needs help, I know a guy dat knows a guy, ya know?

roflmao....just got blocked from his instagram, I created an account just to comment on his pics.
one comment got deleted and the other still there. ;)

Don't think he liked my comment... "G-A-N-Z-O and Ganzo is its name-O"...

Saw a pic of a kid, maybe 10 yrs old, holding a WKC "ganzo" box, I made a comment about ripping off kids...

he sure is quick to hit that "block" button

I'd like to say "this guy's a joke" but it's too dang sad to even laugh at. :(

I think it will take a lawsuit to stop this guy.
That or someone might take matters into their own hands, like this :poop:head threatens to do,
nowadays you never know what people might do. What with all the road rage and school shootings and stuff,
it's definitely getting "cra-cra", as the kids say. (had to look that up:confused:)

Sometime back some guy jump out of his vehicle yelling obscenities at me for some unknown reason. scary :poop:, man

hey, i kinda these emoji things

The other day Chris was sending me threats and he wanted to include his grandmother in the arguement for whatever reason, I have my theory but I reacted and had something to say about it.

Everyone here knows that buying a membership doesn't mean you are part of the community. You cant buy into it. And theirs more than one way to support the forum. Quality of posts for one thing. Helping others is another.
