Cigar Box!!

I was intending to wait in for a couple of parcels today, so thought I'd take a few pics of the cigar box contents. This one contains some MOP and ivory...

Just heard the Royal Mail are on strike today, so I'm going to head out for a coffee and a haircut, but I'll take some more pics later if anyone wants to see more

Keep them coming Jack, always enjoy your pictures.

I used to have several King Edward cigar boxes as a kid, got one or two left. later I was able to grab a few wooden cigar boxes from an old deli that had a cigar section and they had several for a few dollars here and there.

I found my picture on the Stuart Mitchell site. It is the first item that pops up when googling Jack Black knives. 😁👍
Hmmm...Yes, Stuart refurbished that knife for a feller some years back, if I recall correctly I remember the owner's dad buying it for his son as a 13th birthday gift, he had some very flattering things to say about it :) It was actually engraved, with a message on the blade, originally. I remember, since the steel was already hardened, it cost me a hefty price to get the engraving done. It was done by a feller called Mick Shaw, who also made my stamp, and who also makes the stamps for A. Wright & Son

Well, from the picture it appears to be a beauty. More history I love to hear.
Glad your day is going well Jack.

Most of the MOP knives in that cigar box are vintage Sheffield, but what about this for a cool 'SAK'?! :D

Some interesting ones in there. This Surgeon's Knife by Jonathan Hall of Bradford has lost a blade, sadly, but these are rare knives:

I've never been able to work out who made this old Champagne Knife unfortunately, the mark doesn't quite make sense 🤷‍♂️

I've been enjoying this thread immensely! My single box is quite modest compared to most shown, but I love it. I need to line it one day soon. While I don't have many slipjoints, I do have piles of cigar boxes, from a stint employed at the local cigar shop when I was young. If any of you reading this are pining for one, message me and I'll send one out for the cost of postage. The wife would like me to get rid of most of these, so mailing them out is a win-win the way I see it ;)

LOVE that James Chesterman. Unique in traditionals to have both the bolsters and the handle designed that way ?

A great start to your slipjoint collection.
A generous offer to those in need of one.

Bob

Unbelievable lovely knives; consider this a blanket "like" for all of them! The cigar store here wised up and I can't pay the price for the boxes anymore, but I have collected a couple hundred images of cigar box art.

Thanks Lee, beautiful images there :) Unfortunately, cigar boxes here come with multiple graphic anti-cancer stickers attached. They usually come off with the liberal application of butane fortunately
Good tip, and a fantastic collection

What a kind offer :) I lined the first couple I got with felt, then got kind of lazy

Thank you, it was a nice find for me. Several members of my family, going back, at least, to my great grandmother worked for Chesterman's. I have a few Ruler Knives, which use Chesterman rulers, but knife collectors have often debated whether Chesterman actually made knives themselves. That knife is rather specialised, with characteristics more commonly associated with Sheffield silver-bladed Fruit Knives, so I have doubts about it being made in their Bow Works factory, but it does have the Chesterman tang-stamp, and is the first knife I've come across with it :) I've not seen anything like it on any of their advertising, so perhaps it was a presentation piece of some kind
