CK Exclusive: Fox Cutlery "Recoil" Gunstock

Can anyone comment on the thickness behind the edge? The CK website doesn't list blade stock thickness, so I'm skeptical.

The chunky edge of the Lionsteel Roundhead has kept me from picking one up, although they are very gorgeous.

What generation of Roundhead do you have, because that matters a bit. The 1st generation Roundheads were a bit thick behind the edge and if memory serves, Mike had them tweak it some in subsequent releases. I have found that the blades on these Italian releases (LionSteel, Viper, etc.) are made from thicker stock than is typical on a traditional slip joint. That said, I think the thinness behind the edge is dialed in pretty nicely overall - especially in the later generations.

Good memory. The first run came in around 24/1000ths and all subsequent runs were @20/10000ths. One youtube reviewer gets an old model and mentions @24 as a negative and no telling how many sales it costs. But we have sold A LOT of the barlows and haven't had one buyer complain about the TBE.

The Recoil is @20-22/1000ths. But this is the sharpest knife out of the box I have ever handled; so be careful...

knifeswapper knifeswapper Looking forward to my Lava. Any idea how much farther behind the others are? I reserved an olive one, too.

There are no others. The four we have are all that were contracted. The other choices were eliminated last year and an email send to each person that reserved them.

I very much appreciate the reply. Thank you, sir.

This type of information is quite difficult to come by, since manufacturers don't publish these specs. Thanks again.

Thanks, I am sure I got it, just don't remember.

My 3 CK exclusive Fox Gunstock knives arrived an hour ago.... A cursory glance gets my blood flowing!.... The feel, fit and finish and blade grind are stellar.... The blade is nice and thin so they should be quite the slicers....

Thanks Mike for another great CK collaboration...... Now I have to decide which one to carry tomorrow!20210818_163432.jpg20210818_163643.jpg20210818_164009.jpg20210818_164101.jpg

Do you happen to have a clip blade GEC #15 you could put it next to for size comparison?

Here it is. Excellent quality. The blade profile, blade to handle ratio and crisp swedges really make it stand out. As mentioned nice and sharp out of the box.

Is 4/1000ths even noticeable by the average (ie. non-youtube reviewer) user?

Looking good! Almost got the red slip but my oldest said to get brown, so I did. I am a few days out on delivery, though.

There are knives around 0.025 BTE range that remain very slicey (e.g. UKPK) as well as others that aren't (e.g. 940).

It's my understanding that cutting geometry is a result of (1) blade stock thickness (2) grind type and (3) sharpening angle. Each of these has a role to play in cutting performance and they work together to determine TBE.

So, it seems logical that a knife with thin stock and a tall grind can be a great slicer, even if the BTE is thicker (due to sharpening angle).

I put in my order for a bocote model last night, and I can't wait for it to arrive. The photos are beautiful, and I'm betting that the geometry on this one will be pretty good.
