Looks like you guys had a great secret santa exchange this year! Just wish I could have joined. :( Some other time.

Trying out a new roast, degassed for 36 hours and it's ready to go.

I like how the spout on your Chemex runs all the way down like that

Yeah it's the 2-cup model. My wife doesn't drink black coffee, only lattes. So most of my gear selfish size. I prefer the design of the smaller chemex to the larger variants.

Ah I drink about 4 cups/day from an 8 cup one from 60's or 70's I think from the graphics, got from a buddy who was "too lazy for pour over"

Picked up some of this Yerba Mate yesterday excited to try.. will be preparing momentarily.
I thought it was from Australia like how they always call everyone "mate" but I guess it's mahtay (mäˌtā), I think I'll still pronounce it Australian tho it's hard not to, will report experience.

Update: Ok so been drinking this off and on all day it really reminds me of green tea in many ways although less...latexish in taste. I made it like a tea in a loose leaf tea cup with strainer catch at the lip, at certain points I did notice an internal warming accompanied by fleeting energetic bursts however very mild and smooth with moments of.. I don't want to call it euphoria since it wasn't that awesome, I guess I'd call it good feels, but they were fleeting - so much so that I wondered if it was placebo although I wasn't expecting much if anything, I experienced this a couple of times though so I do think there's something there, also I consumed a fair amount of this herb, perhaps the brand I got was not very potent maybe it's better consumed fresher, or maybe I was expecting a bit too much from it.

Update #2
2nd day imbibing this beverage and decided to ramp it up by increasing intake, so I decided to use more leaf per cup and only to drink the 1st wash since I found about 85% comes out in the first cup 10% or so 2nd, and after that it's practically water.

Did not experience same effects as before maybe due to a tolerance or maybe it was all in my noodle, I did find it to have a pretty high caffeine content so if you're looking for a coffee alternative this may be for you but for me it was a very dirty stimulation like I experience when I drink too much coffee, and I kind of hate it because it seems caffeine does either next to nothing for me energy wise. or I'm overdosed, all jittery and feel like poop.

Happy holidays guys, spent the morning sharpening up the Spyderco users. Put a screaming sharp edge on the Native and Manix.

The Millitary in S110v (recent gift from a bf member) I havn't figured out yet. It's super grabby sharp, I'm starting to believe it's not possible to have a refined edge on S110v. It's almost like having a serrated plain edge knife which is a pretty cool thing.

I bought a baratza coffee grinder online. It was from Kean coffee, purchased with a stolen credit card. I was contacted by Karen Diedrich, we pieced together what happened and caught the bad guy. For my help she sent me some Kean coffee(Kenya Lenana). I've tried several kinds now and have enjoyed it all. They have quite a coffee history!
KELAMA, From your location I hope you like the ocean...(hint). I've been lucky enough to travel around Japan several times and love the scenary, culture and art. It's been a wonderful Christmas so far...thank you all and Monofletch for organizing..

^ I pretty much live in the ocean. :) When I returned back to SoCal over a year ago (after 6 months up in the high country of Idaho), I took 8 months off & surfed every chance I could.

That's a sweet stag Northfield, Kelama. The #73 is one of GEC's most popular patterns. This 2 blade version with almond bone covers was my first from them. It's my version of coffee with cream.;)

It looks like everybody got some good stuff.

^ Thank you, for sharing this! It's definitely an awesome knife! :)

My cuban girlfriend put me onto Cafe Bustelo in an espresso pot.... never looked back. Buckle up.

^ Will you please post a couple of pictures... :D

^ Nice picture! It appears that your cool looking parrot has the run of the house! Which system do you use to sharpen your knives?

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!

It depends, on the steel for regular stuff I use a Norton economy, kitchen honing steel, lansky turnbox.

If I have to reset the edge entirely, I have a dmt aligner, sharpmaker, crystolon and a smiths diamond something or other.

My next step is to get a set of DMT hones in course and fine. And I have diamond paste coming which I'm going to embed into a piece of leather glued onto a paint stick.

It's very hard to tell, but I was stropping the blurple millitary and you can see how abrasive the carbides are in S110v. I've never seen that before. It put a furry texture on the loose-leaf paper from the carbides grabbing onto it.

We got some birds as you can tell, bird paintings too. Lol.

My wife bought me a Ninja Coffee Bar for Christmas. I was sceptical at first, but it has been rolling out the smooth brews for the past 2 days!! It does use a little more coffee than my Aeropress, but the concentrate is awesome. The drip coffee is superb as well. I have been using some of Yashua's Espress end ground a little finer.

I am a big coffee nut, and have been for a while. Do pour overs most mornings. :) I love the small batch roasters. Joebella's in Atascadero, Ca does a nice job. Stumptown in Oregon in good. My new favorite it Flag and Wire, Or. The Coffee comes very fresh. All of these have online stores.

Being Chinese I'm pretty daring in what I eat, I'm having morcilla and salchipapa for dinner right now from a Colombian spot several towns over from me.

That said re: Yerba mate I can't do it. Tastes like cow grass to me. Lol.

Yerba Mate does have a grassy taste.... I grew to like it after a few months though. Especially if you put some honey in with the water when you are moisten the tea.
