Coffee

A link to Business insider's best coffee shops in every state which may or may not have the best coffee. Do you agree? http://www.businessinsider.com/best-coffee-shops-in-the-us-2014-7?op=1

I get "standard" coffee service through my business, I drink on the order of 8 cups of coffee a day, usually in the first 3 hours of the morning. I love coffee and love standard, not sure of the blend but its good and strong, I think sonic may use the same company.

does anyone have any suggestions for a total coffee addict? I have never gotten an actual bag of coffee, so what would I buy if I like really strong , bitter coffee?

great thread and great pictures guys.

I wish I could help you but I am still learning about the beans but I can help you on the differences in the espresso equipment.

Espresso Cielo.
Machine and grinder: Synesso, Mazzer Robur.
Beans: 49th Parallel, Old school. Typica, Villa Sarchi, Bourbon & Caturra
Region: Ethiopia, Jimma Tencho & Welinso.
Elevation: 1525-1675 m.a.s.l.
Region: Guatemala, La Providencia.
Elevation: 1650-2000 m.a.s.l.
"Old School Espresso® is perfect for those who prefer low acidity and full body. Dark chocolate aroma with profound flavours of cocoa, caramel and molasses."
Taste: Average, medium acidity which turns to bitter as the temperature decreases. 3 out of 5.

Funnel Mill. Has a huge menu including the $1000.00 a pound Kopi Luwaki and is $90.00 for a cup. No cell phone use in line too.:)
Machine and grinder: Rancilio manual spring lever, Mazzer Robur. No one I have been to uses a manual spring lever.
Beans: Milan which is their own blend. "Dark Roast from South America, Body: Bold & Cocoa, Acidity: Low. A rich blend of South American beans, Italian roasted to a deep, dark brown. These beans yield a full, complex body with a thick rich crown."
Taste: The first thing you notice is the delightful aroma of milk chocolate and cocoa. Tastes like it smells almost like a cappuccino. 4.5 out of 5.

Demitasse. I also tried the Kyoto 15 hour cold drip coffee which was my 11th drink of the day.
Machine and grinder: La Marzocco GB 5, Mahlkonig ek43. Also has the 4 barrel, "crucibles," steampunk and the 15 hour cold drip Kyoto rack.
Beans: Barundi Kayanza. "This coffee, containing Bourbon, Jackson and Miribzi varietals, also sports a unique process - double fermentation. The cherry is first pulped, soaked in water, then washed and soaked again, resulting in an insanely clean and smooth cup. This coffee comes from Segec Washing Station, one of the few purchased and run by a local entrepreneur as opposed to an international trading house."
Flavor Notes: Plums, persimmons and grapes.
Taste: Fruity which was a great change of pace from all of the chocolate nutty drinks. Turned slightly bitter as it cooled. 3.3 out of 5.

Roaster and beans: Andante Roasters, Camien espresso blend.
Tasting notes: "Cranberry jam, apricot, raw sugar, dark chocolate."
Normally Busse goes with liquor but bacon can also be combined with espresso.:D

Nice! Have you figured out all of the variables in your espresso set ups? Can you pressure profile and surf temp. yet?

Honestly I don't put too much thought into it other than the grind and proper tamping. Good quality beans of course then just let the machine do its thing. Comes out well enough for me for now. Some day I'll take it to the next level.

House Roots coffee. They have calculated all of the variables. Its nice to know they take great pains to produce their coffee. They also gave me a free specialty drink to try.
Beans: Heart coffee, Ethiopian Chelba. "Orange, watermelon, caramel."
Machine and grinder: La Marzocco GS3, Mazzer Robur.
Location: Yirgacheffe
Washing Station: Chelba
Elevation: 1800-2100 m
Varietal: Heirloom
Processing: Fully washed
Harvest: December 2013- January 2014
Rating: 3.5 out of 5. You can taste the notes that they say it has.

I heard and read that as we age, we lose a large portion of our taste buds. To me, there two types of coffee, drinkable and :barf:

I was at Fry's last Thursday and was looking through their whole bean inventory which is usually pretty slim in most super markets. Anyway, they had a bag
of store brand Sumatra Mandheling on sale. It's not bad if you like dark roast. The beans are very dark and oily, but don't have that burnt taste. I would buy
it again.

Fry's is part of the Kroger Co.

Yeah, Fry's. They may not be in your area. How about Ralph's, Smith's, FredMeyer or Kroger?

;)

I've got a Fresh Market just opened near me and their selection of fresh roasted beans is better than most. I just picked up 3 lbs last week of some generic french roast beans but next time I'll grab some of the higher end stuff and give a review.

We have a few so-called natural food stores, but their bulk coffee is exposed to light and air. Not good from what I understand.

A Sprouts opened a couple of months ago, but I haven't been there yet, so I don't know what their coffee is like.

LOL!!! Frys where I live is a huge electronics store like BB. Beans look smooth and earthy with a medium body.

The Sprouts around here store their beans in those delivery chutes and the barrels with the clear lids that are exposed to air. They also have whole bean and pre ground coffee in the bags with a wide selection to choose from.

This morning it's coffee, black (the only way coffee should consumed) from dark roasted Peruvian beans.

I'm an afflicted coffee addict myself. i know the stuff ain't good for me but i just am whipped by great coffee.
have you ever heard of Seth @ oldbisbeeroasters ? He does a coffee sampling in Bisbee, AZ on the weekends.
He also does a critique of his greatest on youtube where he really puts his face right in it . I can really relate.

He looks like a unique individual.
Checked out the website and the free shipping on beans looks pretty good.
