Coffee

Thanks. I normally wouldn’t be so upset, but not thrilled at the idea of a bunch of big boxes worth that much just sitting on the porch some random day, when possibly nobody is home. They’re definitely not making it easy!

Hope it gets there safely. I have in the past had my deliveries changed from both UPS and FedEx to be held at one of their locations for pickup when I was worried about them being left outside.

Yeah, and I am considering doing that. Too bad it used to be free, and they charge for that now.

Welp, changing the delivery is not an option on these for some reason. :poop: Sucks, because the hub is like 5 minutes from my office. The good news is that one of the 3 boxes of beans showed up today out of the blue, just a couple hours ago.

ETA ~100 minutes later - Well I'll be! My stuff just got scanned at the local hub! Too bad I can't run over there and pick it up now. 😒

Not to derail the roller coaster that is Spyderphreaks delivery woes, but does anyone have a reputable source for hanging-ear single-use filter bags? The best I can find is alibaba, which I won't use, and very (VERY) poorly translated English on sites I've never heard of. I found plenty pre-loaded with coffee, but I'd rather have empty bags and fill them with my own coffee.

I want to try an alternative to lugging my aeropress, filters, sundries, and coffee around on canoe trips. I've run through the gamut of "ultralight drip cones" and similar and they all pretty much suck. I'd rather go on a canoe trip without paddles than not bring coffee, but dang it's a big space penalty.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

There are a whole bunch of options available on Amazon. Just one of many hits I got. I don't use these, so that's the best I can do without further details.

Picked up a new scale scoop since my cheapo funnel tray has gotten pretty warped from the heat and become a pain to use. It's quite bigger than I expected, as this is how much 2 lbs of green coffee fills it up. Definitely overkill for my use, but it's sturdier than what I was using. Should be pretty easy to pour into with the big opening though and still easy to pour into bags or containers when I'm done.

Hey Dan, mind saying where you got it? I’m going to be doing some bigger batches now… ;)

Glad it arrived safely! Have fun playing around with the new toy.

It's a Rattleware scale scoop. I'll message you a link for it.

So, this is pretty cool! Took inventory of my 3 x 30# boxes of green beans delivered today. This has never happened before in my 20 years of buying beans from Sweet Maria’s, and I’ve read rumors of this, but I got a coffee bag in my first box of beans! 😎

Upon opening the 3rd box, what’s this? ANOTHER bag!!! Whoa, this one is cooler than the first one! :D :D :D

How cool is that? No clue what I’m going to do with them though lol. Maybe hang them up in the garage? 🤷‍♂️

Very cool. I didn't realize they made their own bags
I don't think they make their own, but they're labeled at origin for their exclusive lots. 🤷‍♂️ Cool little addition though!

I couldn't wait last night, and did my first 3 seasoning roasts. A couple more and I'll be able to actually keep the coffee. One thing I learned is that I shouldn't have any major issue roasting with this thing outside in the cold, it did just fine at 28°.

That does make more sense and explains why it's not very common to get them.

Did my first REAL roast last night. Hadn't planned on it, but also didn't realize we didn't have enough coffee for the weekend. Since the roaster was already hot from 2 more seasoning roasts (1# and then did a 2#), why not? Did 300g (2/3#) of a Guatemalan. Roast profile below:

Very cool! That should make it easy to reproduce good results or make changes if you want. I didn't realize it recorded things like the ambient temp and humidity.

It doesn’t record ambient, but gives you a place to add them. I have a good Davis weather station, so that part is easy.

I am still trying to figure out what the “Exit Temp” is, and what it’s recorded with. 🤷‍♂️

What is really cool is that you CAN literally click a couple buttons on the computer, and the machine will replicate the roast if you want. You can also follow a profile from their online community by clicking a couple buttons. A lot of people buy from Sweet Maria’s (and a few other places), so it’s not uncommon to find professional-level profiles already listed for a given bean.

SO many little things like this that make it such a GREAT roaster! So far, I’d say my buddy was right.
