Cold Steel (biased?) I think I like them :P

You're a class act, Bkultra.

BF "needs" more brainless wonders like you.

Yes and your comparison of Coach, Giorgio Armani, and Yves St Laurent were so relative and informative. Do you do more shopping for purses or knives?

I find this all too funny. The truth is I posted facts about cold steel in my original post, someone called the things I listed as "BS". In my next post I broke it down fact by fact so they could point out what was "BS". Next thing I know I getting lists of fashion companies, that in the posters eyes use the same manufacturing techniques  And then comes the name calling :D

Pretty simple all I ever wanted to know is what about my original post was "BS". I never asked for a list of other companies that do the same thing, all though this just proves that I was right in my original post.

The only way you are going to find out, Is to buy it, and try it out yourself. You know you want to. Go ahead. BUY IT!!!

Indeed Cold Steel is paying Spyderco royalties for it's use of that blade shape NOW! But it was only after some legal muscle flexing that CS decided to pay up. The distribution of the CS black talon was stopped untill the agreement was made, after Spyderco found out a very similar copy of one of their designs was branded by CS .
Lynn Thompson even said he "invented" the whole "fighting knives" theme in the 80's, and Spyderco jumped on the tactical bandwagon after the IRAQ war! He seems to forget the design of the Civilian was from the 1990's and invented solely for the role of a last ditch self defense weapon for the D.E.A.

In this thread, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=492653, Grohmann notably did not respond to your direct question.

In the other two threads, Eric (Normark) chose to answer, but offered no authority for his conclusion.

Perhaps Grohmann is in a licensing deal with CS.
As I'm sure you know, these kinds of deals happen all the time, all over the world.

That is the post I mentioned above. Thanks for elaborating on it, rifon.

There are some Cold Steel knives that I like, but since I only have so much money to spend, I have decided to spend it on knives from companies that I respect.

You have no idea the size of the can of worms you just opened.

You Sir are correct :) .....but I'm learning Sooooo much.

Maybe just maybe THIS can be the end all CS Thread. I still like the products and after looking at more some still interest me.

Someone posted that it's the Marketing style that a lot of people hate :p PLEASE know that if this Marketing sticks in your head (right or wrong) it's doing it's job.

Also an observation that some on this forum think everything is a copy  It is ;)

Now I'm not a knife expert but we've been making sharp pointy things for a long time. So just about everything ever made in the knife world is a copy.

Looked at the Canadian knife style I like it. Now someone posted a link to a "TRUE" Canadian knife and after looking it up it's over $200 DOLLARS. Now the CS version was under $20  I think I'll buy 4 or 5 from CS for the cars and shop to use or hell give away as gifts. It's a great design and the "TRUE" COPY will never know the difference because I don't think I would buy 1 for that much cash.

But somebody might be FLUSH with cash and just let me know and I'll send you my Addy for a "TRUE CANADIAN BELT KNIFE COPY" :)

Thank you for all the replies and know you have taught a new knife lover A LOT Thanks

Knives of Alaska also has an exact copy of the Original Canadian belt knife. I don't know if the original from Grohmann was also a copy of a earlier pattern but is would come as no suprise. KOA calls it the Yukon Belt knife.:D I have all three. Its a favorite of mine.

Maybe...Hold on I gotta go get my pig, hes off flying again, lol...:D
Just kidding...As far as I know there is No such thing...there are 3 topic in my mind that will never end here on the forums unless one of the compnaies goes out of buisness...Here they are:

Cold Steel bashings...
Strider bashings...
And whats a good knife for the money, lol...

To be fair, CS' old Carbon V stuff (0170-6c, the same stuff in Camillus' becker line) was decent stuff. I got a Becker, and the edge seemed to chip more easily than my old trailmaster. As near as I could tell, CS kept really good quality control on both the construction and heat treat of their stuff, even if they didn't make it themselves. That's really the only actual fault I can find with them, in retrospect. I thought about one of their new SK5 trailmasters for awhile, but I'll probably go with something made in the USA, just because I'm economically patriotic.

Somebody must love 'em. I just googled GI Tanto Cold Steel to see the specs and the first (and only) four places I checked were out of stock.

I don't know much about STRIDER. I've only met them once at an LEO Show in Ca. and the stripes/bars on the knives put ME off :barf:

Now they have a SWEET deal going with Buck keeping the name on the pricey barred/stripped stuff and having Buck selling a low line in black for them.....money..money......money...:)

So my NEXT post will be about how STRIDER is a sellout j/k

BTW: searching on this forum sucks. I can't get any detail under simple or advanced and it just times out or you can't use the "BACK" button

I add another one:

Which is better, Benchmade or Spyderco?
And more recently- Benchmade, Spyderco or Kershaw?

Keith, I didn't see your post until now but this is truly part of the question I have about Cold Steel. I have NOW also read about Strider and this amazing word for a business.

respect

Why would I respect CS or Strider more than any other company? Not just a knife company but why respect? Are you looking for a good Mission statement? Advertising? Customer Support? Price point?

What would make one company more respectful than another

Reference: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/respect

MOST things purchased in the US are not made in the US so I left that out.
BTW: If you tell me that's the reason (Made in the USA) you must just be posting in this Thread for the comic relief :)
