Cold Steel Chaos has arrived

If I recall SK-5 is a "proprietary" Cold Steel steel name, correct. Does that not mean it can be anything at any time?

No. SK-5 is a known and fairly common grade of simple, high carbon steel. Essentially a Japanese version of 1080.

ETA: you may have been thinking of "Carbon-V". Which was almost certainly 0170-6 the whole time, but about which arguments and controversy rage unabated to this day... despite and/or regardless of any evidence.

Congratulations on the new knife! Not really my thing, but I've gotta admit there's some appeal to something that's just mean looking. I also find people busting on this for mall ninja appeal and defending the AA to be mildly hilarious. One is essentially a much higher end version of the other. I don't love either, but if you do more power to you!

This knife is totally impractical in nearly every way for nearly every use, other than the one for which it's intended, i.e., absolutely last-ditch, brutal, shtf, fighting-for-your-life combat. I also have a better chance of being struck by lightning and winning the lottery on the same day than of having to use such a knife in this fashion. However, that doesn't mean I don't want one. :D I will probably end up with one of these just for lookin' and fondlin'.

I think it'd be cooler if someone took the time to "antique" it. Remove the blade coating, remove the anodizing on the handle, regrind the knuckle guard to be more traditional, re-anodize is gold, etc. Anyways, it's an interesting piece none the less. :)

I foresee a lot of YouTube clips of salad dodgers doing water bottle cuts and piercing tests.

I just hope the handles don't fall off in the process like other cs models.

Eh, for the price id get a lawman or Recon1 or even better a Blem BK

its cool for a wall hanger or letter opener though

Busse>cold steel ANY day.

Not even close. The expense is too much for most buyers. Other companies allow a greater variety at reasonable prices.

Why would anyone mock the Chaos as a mall ninja knife but see the Busse as somehow better at a higher price to fill the same fantasy niche?

I want to pick one up myself, plus the trainer.I like it. $600, I have paid for a firearm.Never for a knife,a knife is not worth that price.Just a knife after all.

I mock both equally.

Actually, I mock the Busse higher. Because you are spending hundreds more for an equally useless piece of mall ninja gear :p

Useless or not, I'd have one if they weren't good for up to 10 years in prison around here. :(

Life is too short to be practical. :)

I think it's a real bada$$ knife! I live in a state where you can carry virtually anything, but 17 oz. seems pretty heavy to me. It would definitely be nice for a collection/to fondle. I love a good, sharp double edged knife!

Wow! Up to years in the pen for a knife?? That's insane. I could see a law like that if we were talking about a sawed-off shotgun, but a knife? C'mon now.

The legality problems are soooooo written all over this one. Dagger + Brass Knuckes = 2 strikes out. It's one of those Cold Steel knives that proves Lynn Thompson is overcompensating again. I love some of their knives, but a lot or hurt is this ones only purpose. The original WW1 trench knives were cool in the sense that they have a historic purpose for guys fighting a unique type of warfare we'll never (hopefully) see again. That type of warfare is gone, so the knife serves no real purpose now.
