Cold Steel Chaos has arrived

Is this the right area to talk about this? Kinda surprised no one else is pumped up about this blade.

I'd love to hear some comments! If it's as good as my other Cold Steels I will have to ask Santa for one !
This is really the only new Cold Steel knife I noticed that interests me ;)

I think it's a real bada$$ knife! I live in a state where you can carry virtually anything, but 17 oz. seems pretty heavy to me. It would definitely be nice for a collection/to fondle. I love a good, sharp double edged knife!

Honestly doesn't feel too heavy in hand tho. Kabars are 19oz and they're both about the same size. Here is a pic of it next to my 7in kabars for comparison sake.

I would hang that CS in my kitchen as use it allot!

Also it could sell for 4x the cost like my other discontinued CS's are already.

Does the CS have a full tang? How about the sheath .. any clips or straps for a boot knife?

That Busse looks like crap. Way over priced and not a collectors item. Who will pay that much for a knife. I would hang that CS in my kitchen as use it allot!

I don't think it's completely full tang. I have a feeling the tang ends shortly after the 2nd screw. But I'm not certain i haven't taken it apart. The sheath is quality and I'm sure if you really wanted to wear it as a boot knife you could rig something but to answer your question no it doesn't come with clips or a strap to set it up that way out of box. The sheath is thin enough to be used that way tho. And you could run a strap thru the belt loop on the sheath to keep it on your leg. Although Idk how comfortable and practical it would be given the overall size and weight of the knife. Definately not your typical boot knife lol.

Even living in VT , where I personally asked a police officer about knife/knife carrying laws & he told me there really are none (unless you're in a state or federal building)... I asked him this after seeing a man walking around in downtown Burlington with a Bowie knife hanging from his belt that was at least 12"... even here the brass knuckle component is illegal. I personally think this is a sick knife! It would be a great backup weapon in the case of WROL!

It's interesting that someone on active duty performing a role that would involve E&E, would carry single use extra weight in the escape and evasion kit that they carry with them 24/7....you'd think that light weight would be the key. Learn something new every day around here!

As for the knife, I'm glad it works for you, I hope when you get one, that you enjoy doing whatever you plan doing with it.

And I'm sure Cold Steel wont be able to make those thing fast enough. Sell like hotcakes at a fat guy convention.

That said, in my opinion, two thumbs up to Cold Steel again, for further promoting the idea that knife users are stab-happy. We need more of that, because right now the general public think we are sensible people who use our knives as tools.

In my opinion, that is the silliest piece of ninja-ry I've seen in a long time.
Dislike. This knife is awesome.... A fondler, yes, but if it came down to it... Tell me you wouldn't want to protect your life with this SOB.

Really?!? In what ways are these less expensive knives equal to the corresponding Busse? Let's look at just one aspect of the knives shown in this thread. What's the resale value of that Cold Steel? What's the resale value of that Busse?

And I'm sure that telephone pole was asking for it.
Ummm.... Resale value is null and void in the case where you'd actually have to use this. Different people have different tastes & not all collect solely based on resale value. I think this knife is awesome! That's my personal opinion. If you think it sucks, then we'll agree to disagree. Fair? This knife is well made & can definitely accomplish its task!

Wow. This is the kind of thread that is making be not want to come onto bladeforums anymore. I'm so sick of ridiculous fan boys and bashing of anything that's not cool/trendy. Yeah, collecting is cool. I love pics of huge collections. And yeah, ridiculous expensive knives can be cool for lots of reasons. But it gets to a point of pure obsession.

This guy, OP, got a new knife. He likes the knife, its something he was looking for. Its something he connects with. What's wrong with that? Isn't that what we're here for?

Yeah, cold steel isn't a premium cool knowledgeable knife guy brand. But they make knives that work. Does a knife enthusiast have to be put down because his knife is worth a tenth of what you paid for yours? Would the extra 500 ish dollars be worth the increase in quality to a soldier who this knife was designed for (I am not sure, I'm not a soldier)?

To the OP: congratulations man! Its not my style of knife, but I get how you feel and am glad you're liking it.

Finally, I'm not putting any knife, brand, maker, community, or forum user. Like what you like and let others like what they like.

The guy enjoys his knife, stop raining on his parade! It might be ugly as sin and impractical, but as long as he likes it we should respect that.

It's been stated in previous post, but I find it laughable (as a guy that owns 3 Busses, and several Busse-kin), that when Busse pulls off something in this "genre" it's well received, and noted for it's uniqueness, and collectibility, and rightly so. When a more affordable company like CS introduces a somewhat, similar product, it's perceived as Mall Ninja garbage. It's not something you're likely to ever use, either way, so why be so harsh and judgmental ? In fact I'd be more apt to purchase the more affordable rendition of the trench knife seeing a I have no legitimate use for it, and it'd just be an addition to my collection. I know the AA could stand as a utility knife as a sort in some limited roles, but in reality it's a big, expensive, toy for those with disposable income. I'm sorry if I've offended anybody in a position that needs, or sees such a knife useful, or utilitarian. I'm surprised at the anti-weapon sentiment displayed by some of you knife enthusiast. It's really not that big a deal in the scheme of things. I guess a double edged knife with a knuckle guard, turns you into some sort of Jack the Ripper. Let the man enjoy his knife in peace. It's an inexpensive head turner. It got my attention, and I know that many will buy and enjoy this knife. In fact if they came out with a more traditional looking trench knife, I'd buy one, seeing as the originals are spendy.

Just ordered one when I saw the thread, I didn't think the dagger model was out yet. I knew the Tanto model has been out for a couple weeks now. Anything else you can say about it Bro? I'm really excited about it.I'm curious of how robust it is...is the weight mostly in the handle? Or blade heavy?

If you want to get some respect for this knife you must first go get a log and baton thru it with a stick. After that stick the blade really hard into a tree and stand on it. If you pass both test your knife will be respected but you must show pictures or make a video and put it on Youtube.

Lol, I am kidding, no actually that is what it will take.

Dislike. This knife is awesome.... A fondler, yes, but if it came down to it... Tell me you wouldn't want to protect your life with this SOB.

If it was all I had? Sure. If a brick was all I had, I'd use that.

You think it's awesome. Great. I don't. OP couldn't figure out why everybody wasn't pumped about the knife. I said why I wasn't.

Next we'll be scoffing at any knife with a lock, a blade over 3 inches, or that doesn't look like a puukko or bushcrafter.

To the people saying it's impractical, that's true. But since when is "practical" a necessity? I know some people here collect firearms...is having 20 or 30 guns more practical that having a handful that you regularly train with and become adept with? Some people here buy swords, how "practical" are they? Is a custom knife with damascus and exotic handle materials that costs several hundred dollars more practical than a similar knife with with a regular steel and wooden handles that you can get for $80? Does everyone here that owns a karambit practice Filipino martial arts? Hell, most people here own more knives than they'll ever *need*, should we mock them too? If a guy owns say a Buck 110, an Ontario Pilot's Survival Knife, or a Ka-Bar USMC, but never uses them and simply owns them for the history behind those designs, is that practical, or should we critique him for buying a knife he doesn't use? If so, direct your critiques my way, cause I own a Ka-Bar, my Ontario will be arriving Tuesday, and I have a Buck 110 from the Buck custom shop on order, yet none of them are going to be knives I carry or use. I might even own a Chaos someday(though honestly, I wish it looked more like a "traditional" trench knife, and as such, it's actually lower on my wishlist than a lot of Cold Steel's other 2013 lineup...like the Marauder bowie, which I will be ordering soon)
