Hey guys. :)

Looks like Cold Steel has a new knife out:

It's their version of a Cinquedea and has a 14 1/2" blade. These were popular in the Renaissance period in Italy as a personal defense weapon. What a wicked thing! Could you imagine getting stabbed up to the hilt with this thing? The wound cavity would be enormous. It also comes with a cool looking leather scabbard.

This seems to be like a great home defense or car defense blade. I really want one, it looks so cool. Seems to be made with really high quality high carbon steel, so it should sharpen up beautifully. These are on pre-order on the Knife Center website for $139.95. I'm thinking about picking one up.

What do you guys think?

Fun.

One thing you have to say about Cold Steel, they ara all about the "because how cool would that be" designs.

I've always like cinquedeas, and this looks like it's gonna be a nice one. Historical examples cataloged by Oakeshott generally run 15-20" in blade length, so this one is at the lower end of the size spectrum, but I like that. I'm pretty sure I'll be picking one up.

Thanks guys! I would pre-order one, but I'm moving in a month so it would likely ship to the wrong address.

I used to think it was stupid, but now I respect Cold Steel for making functional historical replicas of older weapons. Not being much of a wall-hanging type, I don't have any desire to own one, but I've come close a couple of times just because I felt like I wanted to give them money so it would continue to happen.

The Cinq is an absolutely ridiculous weapon. It's like someone turned a paper fan into a blade and stuck a handle on it. I'm sure it's useful and deadly and whatnot, but it looks like a bat wing to me. A knife for the mall ninjas of the past.

I appreciate your opinion. I personally think the Cinquedea looks very interesting. I would be keeping it as just something cool to have, but also as an auxiliary home defense blade if my M1911 goes down. It seems like it would be very deadly indeed.

I own several Cold Steel folders but no legacy weapons like this.
It is cool. How heavy is it?

Although I like the Cinqueda , just as I like almost all of Cold Steel's interpretations of older weapons ,it's maybe just a little too ornate for my tastes. What I really want is the MAA Messer which would perfectly compliment my CS Grosse Messer [ there should really be an 's' at the end of Grosse but I'll go with Cold Steel's spelling]

Don't get me wrong - my opinion on its ridiculousness is pretty much entirely based in my complete lack of interest. I would probably sing an entirely different tune if it were a Masamune or something along those lines despite being just as impractical for me (and, realistically, even most who used it, which is why it is such a specialty item like the Cinq.)

Oh! :)

Well for me, it would mostly be a "showing piece" or a "conversation piece" for display, but like I said I wouldn't hesitate to use it for defense if my home defense handgun went down. I'll probably display it in my apartment on the wall... making sure it is very sharp, and ready if needed.

I also like that CS puts these things out. I don't think we would have as much interest in hawks and medieval weapons if it wasn't for them, no, they didn't do it alone but I think helped and allowed others to room to do it also.

I have been eyeing one of their MAA swords for a while and may just need to take the plunge. Cheaper than knives I carry.

I love cinquedeas and was so psyched when I heard CS was going to make one, only to be disappointed by the route they chose to go with it. They went with a "regular sword" hilt instead of the stylistically distinct route with the cap-style pommel. Also, I wish it was bigger.

Yeah definatly go for it cooldill, im always for people buying historic designs like that. Ive used a handfull of their weapons and they hold up really well, and of course they are great conversation pieces. Havent had a chance to use any of their swords or knives like that yet, but would like to eventually.

I feel the same way. :) These are very cool blades, and they seem useful enough if called upon! :)

Not a fan of the cinquedea design, personally, but it should be nice if you like it. I mean, I bought a Cold Steel mace not that long ago, so...

I bought one of their "special forces shovel" and it kicks major ass.
