Cold Steel ideas for next years lineup ?

I think this post is half joke half real wishes, but thats the cool thing about cold steel, I might never need to use my
over the top voyager xl but just having such a crazy blade is cool :D

For me xl Recon 1 FTW!!!

Also you guys are right an upgrade in quality is only gonna hurt our wallets so bring back the VG-1!!!!

How about releasing a copy of each of their products in a higher grade of steel?
They'd still get the bargain buyers, AND they'd get the knife-knut revenue as well.:)

EXACTLY and how about no coating which would save on production cost.

I'd like to see the Bowie Machetes come back, both the 18" and 12" blade. Also the old Original Tanto with the 5 3/4" blade, the mini Tanto, the Master Hunter with a different shape handle, also the Terminator and Urban Skinner, I always liked the shorter stem or whatever you wanna call it, it fits my hand better than the safekeepers, though the safekeepers are good. I'd also like to see a tanto blade push knife (straight though, not curved). And for once, I'd like to see a Ninja To sword, also a Ninja To bokken, as well as corresponding Tantos that match the sword and bokken. I'd also like to see them put out a straight solid 3' staff and 4' staff, made out of the polypropylene or whatever high tech plastic, with the same outside diameter as 1" PVC pipe.....

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the surface finish of the uncoated blade. Bead blasting and/or coating the blade is usually the cheapest option because surface scratches/dings, and other marks are hidden. Going the satin/stonewashed to full polished route is more costly because more to all of those imperfections must be removed or they'll show on the final product. More machine time/labor increases the cost.

That is true but on my American Lawman once I removed all of the coating the blade underneath is stonewashed as is everyone Else's on here who has done the same thing. So their already stone-washing the blades and then coating them so in this specific instance it appears it would actually lower production cost as your taking one more application including time, material and labor out of the production cycle.

Yup--with most of their line they presently already have the stonewashing. I'm just saying that it may depend on the specific model as not all of their knives come from the same sources. :)

Wow, old thread. If I could have just one Cold Steel wish, it would be to bring back the Light Terrain Chopper or LTC. It was a superb 1/8" thick khukuri shaped blade. It is actually shaped exactly like the current Kukri Machete, but slightly smaller by like an inch. At 17" long and, I believe, 17 oz., it is light and handy. It also chopped like a chainsaw and cleared brush and grass like a real machete. That deep belly and curve was absolute perfection. Mine is an early/mid '90s variant and the Carbon V was great at the time. Mine has seen horrible abuse, but will likely out last me. I love the Gurkha khuk, but the LTC is a bit more tool than weapon and works so well. There was a 3/16" version for a short while, but I never have handled one.

While I'm at it, I think a great improvement would be to make their khuks true full-tang and offer micarta handle slabs. They missed the mark this year. CS khukuri are incredible field tools, but they focus more on the weapon aspect. I mean, come on, adding a guard for khukuri fighting? There's probably more outdoorsmen than large-knife fighters. Take care.

42 your correct as from what I know they deal with numerous different manufacturers throughout Taiwan which in turn are probably getting their blades from all over the place. I don't know this to be true but have heard this, so depending on how in touch they are with their manufacturers your initial reply is again absolutely right.

I need fun:
1- bring back the arc angel bali
2- make a folder k-bit with tri-ad lock and wave feature... the tri-ad is the only mechanism I'll trust for a folder karambit

+1 for: the Smatchet, the Qatar, no more coating and steel upgrade !

Why? You would never stab with a Karambit or put pressure on the spine, so to be honest, a slippie karambit would work just as well. All you need really is a stop pin for the blade

Also instead of the GI TANTO they should make a GI Bowie. Something like this with say a 10-inch blade and under $35

I would like a fixed blade Vaquero with 5" blade, 5" spear-point SRK/G.I. Tanto hybrid, and a 6" Peacekeeper with Gladius wasp blade profile. "Griv-Ex" handle material for fixed Vaquero and Mini Gladius along with boot clip sheaths for IWB carry. Polypro handle scales and nylon sheath with vertical and horizontal belt loops for the SRK/G.I. hybrid.

I am constantly suprised that they don't have just a normal liner lock or framelock style tactical knife. I still use my Recon tanto a lot with the Ultra/Axis lock and would love to see something like that again. I just have a hard time with the new line of liner-less Recons.

The only way we get VG1 back in CS folders is if they move folder production back to Japan, and even then we wouldn't get the old prices. It seems the folders will come from Taiwan from now on. That's OK. For the most part I like the construction of the new Voyagers, so all I really need from CS is a steel upgrade option. All kinds of fancy powder steels get shipped to Taiwan for manufacturing Spyderco knives; CS could probably arrange that too. However, lately I've been thinking that Taiwanese knifemakers really need a locally-produced premium steel. Imagine a Taiwanese version of CPM-154, CTS-XHP, or something of that caliber. Whatever the steel source, I agree with those who think CS should make some kind of effort to appease us steel snobs. Not the whole catalog, mind you, but 2 or 3 premium folders in the $100 to $130 ballpark would do the trick.

I demand they make a bayonet for ar's! It should be full-tang and have actual use as a general beat-around fixed-blade knife. It should be under $150. It's partly because I'm unimpressed with anything but the extrema radio, okc3s, or zt-9 and would like some decently priced tank of a knife....and partly because I want to see what hilarious video of them slicing a pig they can come up with once bayonets are involved. I don't care if they market it as the zombie slayer 3000 and slap bright green handles on the thing to jump onboard the rediculous zed-day bangwagon so long as I can get some decent bayonet from them for a fair price. They've already got the leatherneck....whats a guy got to do to have them chuck bayonet mounts on it?

I would love to see Cold Steel bring back a lot of their old folders and their American made fixed blades because old Cold Steel stuff is awesome!

A Ginunting or Binagon style machete would be really cool. Really like their line of machetes as they are really affordable to be used (hard).
