I was hoping to find a Carbon V version, but the description says SK5...
Did CS make a black SK5?

Not bad at all.

The Carbon V models haven't been made in years. All of the Carbon models manufactured now are SK5.

This is/was the 1st black-finish NIB Trail Master i've seen. I'd been watching it, but noticed the auction was ending today within an hour. I put a bid on and realized i may actually have a chance to one of the hard-to-find beauties. I immediately added another $20 to my initial bid just to be sure!!! However, my 1st bid won the day - Yahoo!!!!

I love the stag handled Trail Master. Wish they were still made. I'm thinking of haveing a custom stag handle made when I get my Trail Master.

Yes they did, it was the model before the Current one.

I also realized i had a black-finished SK5 when i was watching icychap's youtube video on his Trail Master.

I was just hoping against hope i had a late edition of the Carbon V. I'm alright with this now b/c so many people have reported good experience with the SK5 steel.

The carbon V black model has a stamp. Trail Master one side Carbon V usa other side. The more recent SK-5 black model d/c last year (your knife) has an etch Trail Master one side, China other side.

The China model is flat ground and very nice for the price. It has the same dimensions as the other flat ground models.

Thanks Punisher/Grinder -

Hows Berea these days? I lived in Jessamine County for about 6 years and really enjoyed hiking/camping around Berea and RRJ/Natural Bridge areas.

I'm planning on making my own Kydex sheath so no Southern Comfort needed ;-) However, i DO need an outline sketch of a Trail Master to start the designing phase b/c i won't get my knife for several months as i'm currently in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

Berea in the Spring time is beautiful (and the Blue Grass isn't too bad either!!)

Got some pics of your Trail Master at work?!?

So what the difference between the old and the new Tm's besides the steel? Are they dimensionally the same or different grinds.

Missed this question before. The original Carbon V knife was convexed, all other carbon models have been fully flat ground. The stainless Japanese knives(AUS-8, SMIII, VG-1 SMIII) are all convex as far as I know.

This tread made me pull out my old Trailmaster. Carbon V, flat grind, new ricasso type, brass guard, leather sheath. I gave it a little shape up, convexed the edge with sandpaper and polished of some tiny rust spots + the brass. It is an definitive keeper, but I still regret I did not buy a stag handled one when it was offered to me in a shop at a relatively good price.

Any chance I can ride on this threads coat tails and introduce pics of the "mini" trail master?

This is the best I can do until my bonus comes through. Should I get the TM with the RS already in the BoB?

Depends really, but if you love that knife, you will enjoy it's big brother. It has a lot more power.

Edit: Great picture BTW
