Cold Steel vs Busse

Don't revive dead threads, there is a reason that they died, people were tired of them and stopped responding.

On many forums he would have been harped at for starting a new thread. So...
Should he have started a new thread instead, or are old topics simply forbidden to bring back up?

I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, I just want to know for future reference.

I think that if he had new information or something to ADD to the thread, it would be ok to revive it. However, look at the post - nothing but stupid comments.

Who's "he" knife1001?? I think it was?? Dates are from 2002 2008 2010.

Busse for now. Who knows what the future holds.

Yeah yeah dead thread but some of us were not part of the old thread. Yeah yeah search function but I only just got it :)

I would go with Busse since they have a great reputation and look awesome. Cold Steel is ok but if I had the cash Busse definetly.

What I would get if I had unlimited funds = Busse

What I buy because I can afford it = Cold Steel and OR Scrapyard.

Yeah, I'd like to own some Busse's but I got other responsibilities. My CS and SYK do the job.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahhhhhhhahaaaaaa..........sorry,thats was funny

Cold Steel make fine knives. I love my Trailmaster, but it gave me trouble, especially that damn handle. So I tried Busse and they became my standard hard use knives. Now CS is actually superior in some respects: to me they are faster in the hand and depending on model they may be more versatile for some fine jobs. but, having said that, I prefer Busse overall. Better chopper, better steel, and the fanatics are more amusing ;)
Now about that folder...

BTW, don't jump down a guy's throat simply because he hasn't been here forever and asks a simple honest question. Geez.

Now, let's talk Mad Dog :p

I have a lot of both Busse and Cold Steel and like them both.

I say if you have the money Busse is the best there is period, but if not then you would be hard pressed to find a better value than Cold Steel. :)

I come up with the same response (in my head at least :D ):

Buy an 18" machete with a US military sheath and a nice 4" to 5" Marbles or other really good cutter.

Then there is no compromise at all, I've got a proven chopper that will take down a 6" tree if necessary, and a knife that will easily skin a baby rabbit or remove a splinter from my hand.

I wouldn't go 'out in the woods' without this combo.

Oh, and I could afford a really nice SAK, and a stylish hat to go with it :D

But of course it matters where you go, who you are, and what you do when you get there. If I were a true SF member...my priorities would change in a hurry....but for a solid all around kit that I can and do depend on for my forays into the great swamps of South Jersey? Heres mine:

Basic Kit:

18" Ontario Mil-Spec machete $16.00
Military Surplus sheath $20.00
Greco Drop-Point Dangler $55.00
SAK Hiker $22.46
Gerber old style multi-plier $30.00
Small pocket hone $10.00
6" flat bastard file $8.00
(1) Tuf-Cloth $6.00
.45 Cal. canvas magazine pouch $0

Total: $167.46
Whole lotta bang for the buck there...

If it were only about the cost then there would be no Busse and no Randall etc.But I own a few of many makers and the C/S are for the most part not even close to a hand made knife with care put into it,they are mass produced and many are made in china.I carry what I believe can save my butt and since I have been educated a bit in the knife lore - that is a high quality blade that will not let me down = IF its not mistreated. And of course I carry a back-up as thats always my plan,to EDC back-ups to any tool that could save my bacon.I might for instance carry a Busse, and a Ranger or Becker,or BRK&T also .Might even have a C/S in that mix so as to have a plan B. I try to remind myself that after plan B - there had better be a plan C & D.
